Covid Cases at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

:JPN Hideki Matsuyama tested positive for COVID and is out of The Open but should be fine for the Olympics? I picture him as the potential face of the Games (other than some judo stars).

This is going worse than I anticipated. We are nearing the point where a positive test upon arrival means an instant withdrawal from the Olympic competition. :(

According our media the :LTU swimmer had two negative tests in following days and now is allowed to compete.

The concerning part is that there might have been some errors that might lead in stopping some athletes from competing as Lithuanian swimmers are tested every day and that particular swimmer was:

Before flight - Negative

DAY 1 - Negative

DAY 2 - Negative

DAY 3 - Positive

DAY 4 - Negative

DAY 5 - Negative

Making that one-day only positive results quite suspicious.

Imagine an athlete not able to participate due to being false positive, with so many athletes getting tested atleast once a day there is good chance of false positive cases

Yeah, false positives are going to happen when so many tests are being taken each day. It's like lottery and the winners' prize is a DNS at the Games if the false positive is right before the competition. They should take more one test from athletes who compete the next day and let them compete if only one of their test is positive.

Basically we need B samples like in doping test.

Ask polish ski jumpers at the 4 Hill Tournament.

This must be a bad joke...

A full week after arriving to Japan, our canoeist Matija Marinić ended up in quarantine today (not allowed to train on the rapids) because some person from his flight tested positive... And that's despite Marinić testing negative every day since arriving in Japan.

There were canoeists from other nations on that flight as well, but apparently not all of them were ordered a quarantine...

If this is how it works, then just cancel the Games ffs ! :yikes::hairpull:

Seems like they are handling it like BWF during the All England fiasco... After many protesting and pointing about the other, they will be abruptly quarantined too
