Allison Reed submitted her final application for Lithuanian citizenship earlier this week. It's very unlikely to get approved by Lithuanian president.

Russian championships started today in St Petersburg. Scores are a bit, or a lot, inflated, as most of the times in nationals. The ranking order is what it matters the most.

Tomorrow, free dance and men's free skate will be contested, as well as women's short program.

Davis/Smolkin have the upper hand for third. They are ahead of Zagorski/Guerreiro, Morozov/Bagin and Khudaiberdieva/Bazin. These three teams are sperated by less than 1.5 points.

For those who don't know Davis is Tutberidze's daughter. When she was younger, she suffered from third degree hearing loss, which means severe hearing impairment. She has said that nowdays her hearing has been cured.

Zagorski had some serious health issues recently and this is the first time, she and Guerreiro compete this season. Crowd in the stadium were unhappy with their score and reacted with boos.

Ice dance- free dance

Free dance was full of drama.

Leaders after rhythm dance, Sinitsina/Katsalapov withdrew from free dance. In their absence, Stepanova/Bukin won the title comfortably, ahead of Davis/Smolkin.

Khudaiberdieva/Bazin were third, despite not skating in the last group. They just overtook Morozov/Bagin by 0.10 points.

Both these teams expressed complaints about their scores afterwards.

Bazin said ''We wanted at least to have a chance to fight for an olympic spot. We trained, but we had this chance taken away from us. I will not say by whom.''

Morozov said ''We skated well today, probably it was our best skate of the season. Points and place, I will not make any comment.''

Zagorski/Guerreiro dropped to 8th. Zagorski gave everything, but struggled a lot physically. She had a fall and just managed to complete the program. She had serious breathing problems afterwards and wasn't present when their score was announced.

While they make good points, one wishes they at least made full accusations, or none at all, instead of these half-baked. :p

And just to add more to the drama of Russian Nationals, at yesterday's women's SP the judges placed 15-year-old Muravieva (not eligible for Beijing) 2nd.

World Champion Shcherbakova was up next and was placed 3rd. But, the rankings were later changed. Muravieva was deducted one point for going over time limit. Deducting points way after someone's performance is of course against all regulations, but hey, we are talking about Russian Nationals here. It's to be expected. :p

Anyways, looks like Valieva, Trusova and Shcherbakova are going to Beijing, with Valieva being an enormous gold medal favorite.

Always fun U.S. nationals are starting today.

One of the pairs favorites Knierim/Frazier withdrew after Frazier tested positive. He is both vaccinated *and* boosted. Time will tell if they will get selected for the Olympics anyway as one of the top scoring teams.

It will be streamed on the Olympic Channel.

Hopefully making Olympic trials for various countries available on the Olympic channel outside of said country becomes a trend.

Cain-Gribble/Leduc won the short program, narrowly ahead of Calalang/Johnson, with both teams posting impressive scores even for a national event standards.

If they both keep it up, then K/F will have a hard time passing their petition through.

    • Also a first: never before has a Dutch pair participated in the games, according to media rapports.
    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
