Two issues.

1) That's presumptuous of World Athletics that none of those nations could qualify in other events thus invalidating their quota.

2) Nations can only get one universality quota so :KGZ or :PRK can't be qualified in both men's and women's marathon.

The same thing happened in 2020. Universality quotas showed up and disappeared for a while.

:PRK lost their women's quota, doesn't appear now in the Road To Paris. :KGZ still has both.

:URU is probably qualifying in Men's Long Jump, for example.

But for other natios I get it, marathon needs a lot of training and quotas can't be announced too late.

And about :KGZ and :PRK , they already broke that rule last year. They do it if they want. For example they gave a quota to :SSD in both men's 1500 and womens 200 last olympic games. So it's not uncommon. Also, :PRK guy likely qualifies by world ranking as he's #81. He only needs one person rejecting their place

Hammer Thrower Volodymyr Myslyvchuk, originally from :UKR has been living for quite some time in the Czech Republic and in January, he obtained Czech citizenship. Recently, he threw 77,31 m which means limit for ECH in June. Now, Czech athletic federation is dealing with WA whether he can represent :CZE at the ECH this year. I checked his ranking, he is currently 31st in Road to Paris and his last throw was only less than a meter from the strict limit to Paris. Do you guys think he may get an approval for ECH? If so, if he throws 78,20m or qualifies to Paris through the Olympic ranking, could he represent :CZE ??? I know the timing is quite tight and I remember that before there were some rules that you have to represent your new country for a year or two? Not quite sure..... before you can qualify for the Olympics representing your new country. Does anybody how is it right now before Paris? I also noticed some athletes, weightlifters switched to :BRN citizenship and qualified to Paris but I don't know how long ago they changed the nationality. Thanks.

The last international event he competed representing :UKR that I could found was the 2018 Euros. Three years has passed since that, so he wouldn't have any problems to represent another country.

Now it's only waiting until WA gives the thumbs up. We spaniards are in the same scenario waiting for former :CUB Yulemnis Aguilar is given the green ligth in time for the ECH cause she already has spanish nationality.

No, there's no chance, rules are clear.

The mistake was not using other walkers to field a 3rd pair like Japan did as backup, Instead of having them compete in the useless individual race.

Amateurish mistake, here medals count way less than qualifying for Paris...probably even mixing pairs (Palmisano-3rd man, Stano-3rd woman) would have been enough.

That's what Spain did.

Three pairs with the strongest and mixing the favorites so if someone got unlucky they could secure the second spot

Boston is too downhill to count. But because it's a Platinum Label event, top5 qualify to the games because that's happens in all Platinum events.

:ERI Weldu serves as an example or that. She didnt finnish top5 and despite doind the standar isnt qualified

Athletics 2024 Discussion Thread
Posted (edited)

Signing time started for the :ESP Spanish Federation.

Today, our parliament confirmed express nationality to :CUB Yulemnis Aguilar, currently #1 in the women's javelin toplist in 2024. She doesnt represent Cuba since like 5 years ago so there would be no problem, she will be in Paris.

Also, :ETH Likina Amebaw is waiting for the nationality. She has the Olympic Standar in women's 10.000metres and wants to go to Paris. Although her has a different route. She's married to an Spaniard apparently, so no need for the Parliament to get involved. But adminstrations are slow so if "organic" nationality doesn't arrive at time I count with the Goverment giving her an special excempt for the nationality as they did for Yulemnis.

And at last :BDI Rodrigue Kwizera is reportedly starting negotiations paperwork to ask for the nationality, He refused to go with his home country to the latest World Cross Country Championships. He was at Budapest in 2023 so at least until 2026 couldn't compete for the country. So there's no hurry with him.

Would there be any more before Paris or would they stop at 5 between the last 2 years? Who knows....

There are some countries that are more difficult to sort out:

· :CAM:COD:CAF & :HON have similar level athletes in both men's event, can go either way.

· :TPE & :SOL similar level athletes in both women's event, can go either way. (C. Taipei already qualified in men's)

· :GUY:OMA:SWZ:MOZ:GUM:GUI:CAY:HAI:VIE:TKM & :PNG have similar level athletes in both 100 meterss, can go either way

· :ISV has the similar level athletes in women's 100 and men's marathon, can go either (or even both) ways

· :LBN:AND:HKG:PAR & :ISL have similar level athletes in all events, can go any way.

· :YEM & :TLS  I have no idea, they have no athletes in either gender or event with results uop to two years. Also :DJI is already qualified in men's event and there's no women in either event in World Athletics. In past years, Timor Leste and Djibouti tend to compete with distance runners.

· :IRI:PHI:LBR:EST & :CHI probably wont need an invitation because they would probably qualify in both genders.

The same way that this five wont need an invitation, there would probably be new countries that would need one. But that is way more time consuming to try to predict. Maybe another day.
