  1. Turns out Kira Toussaint didn't miss the WCH due to sickness, but because of a positive doping test.
  2. Saturday it's Belgium's turn, the nominees are as follows. Men Koen Naert (athletics) Bart Swings (speed skating) Eden Hazard (football) Women Nina Derwael (artistic gymnastics) Emma Meesseman (basketball) Nafi Thiam (athletics) Team Belgian Cats (lol) Red Devils (lol) Belgian Tornados (lol) Red Lions (lol)
  3. I posted some of the awards from here on a Dutch forum and @dcro, this was the first reaction: Agreed
  4. I'll go back to watching the globally insanely popular sports of sprint canoe and open water swimming
  5. Just to clarify: personally I prefer watching polo over korfball
  6. I believe they did not compare an established World Games sport with an über-elite sport, no
  7. Teenage Andorrans, Brazilians (and even better, a girl, since there's a severe lack of them in the Brazilian XC/biathlon world) and Chileans making their debut this season, excellent stuff.
  8. I still don't get what's funny or strange about a double Olympic champion getting the award
  9. I love how so called sports fans in the Netherlands are like "omg it's always a speed skater and speed skating is just Dutch folklore, boohoo!!" when in fact Nuis is the first speed skater in 8 years to get the sportsman of the year award
  10. Now I'm curious what's so funny about it
  11. Kjeld Nuis (speed skating) and Suzanne Schulting (shorttrack) won the sportsman and sportswoman of the year awards in the Netherlands, the coach of the year award ended up in a tie between Jac Orie (speed skating) and Raemon Sluiter (the coach of non-nominated tennis player Kiki Bertens).
  12. Young Taynara in her biathlon debut season. Well, oops. Still beat Croatia though (thanks to an 8 minute penalty for presumably missing 4 penalty laps, but that happens to the best I guess), @dcro 1-0.
  13. It might be because subconsciously I'm very much not a fan of Franklin basically ever since she started appearing at major events
  14. Yes and where it's not 30+ degrees until midnight or something I need no cheering up when it comes to short days and cold weather And to add to the Christmas songs:
  15. Ha! Yesterday I noticed Johannes Dale wasn't in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach, so after his sensational IBU Cup debut last week I had a faint hope they might already (incredibly early!) put him in the World Cup, which would explain his absence in Obertilliach.... And there he is https://ibu.blob.core.windows.net/docs/1819/BT/SWRL/CP03/SMSP/BT_C51A_1.0.pdf Dale is going to be a big one.
  16. 'Missy' Franklin has retired.
  17. It'd be so cool to have 9 (!) teams at the Olympics
  18. Totallympicsmeet commercial on Dutch TV these days (some is in Dutch, most in English, the Dutch part is explaining how they're a group of gamers who play a ton online but never actually met and now they organised a Christmas dinner in a pub in London to meet)
  19. Huybrechts is breaking Larsson down like a one man demolition show
  20. And snow in August as well for our South American friends.
  21. No, please don't.
  22. Thanks man, now I want to destroy all the bulbs every single time I load a page.
  23. 40-50 for a cheap one, 200-300 for a professional one apparently
