looking at today's judo draws... OK, if you want to win medals you have to beat the best in your class, but Italy today have been the most unlucky team in the world...all of our guys have to face world or olympic medallists before even thinking about the pool finals (and the subsequent repechage rounds in case of a loss)...

in general, the participation to this tournament is not the most crowded ever in terms of top athletes (especially the Europeans, since next weekend there are the European Games Karate finals in Minsk, which have 1 men and 1 women's Olympic Quota up for grabs)... but still, in the final rounds I see a lot of big names, so it's not that the quality is that poor...maybe the tournament was lacking a bit in depth, but not in the top stars... for what I see, Gaysinsky was actually a bit lucky with the draw, but Irr and Marino are still quite good fighters (our guy was considered a great talent -world junior medallist, senior european champion at the age of 20, but at the moment he's struggling with too many injuries and can't find his shape of 2017 back)... for sure, if he was in the same pool with Yamanoglu and Ganjzadeh (2 of the very best in the world), he wouldn't be in the gold medal match... unfortunately, Serie A tournaments don't give up that many ranking points... for Italy, it was a very good tournament so far, with 3 athletes in the gold medal matches and 5 fighting for bronze...I hope that later today they can finish the job with full success...

only if DEN win against SRB and 3 teams end up with 6 points, otherwise the direct matchup between GER and AUT would be the tiebreaker...
