Congratulation to our first winner of the year ady48 and Romania for a deserved Gold Medal !

It was a big battle for top spot since Day 3 between ady48, Ufilov and Crolympic, joined on Day 7 by bestmen.
Unfortunately for him and Croatia, Crolympic missed the round of 16 , and dropped from top spot to the middle of the table losing a big chance for a medal  and leaving the lead to ady48 who secured his position until the finish.

There was another battle between Ufilov and bestmen for 2nd and 3rd spot, which was decided on the last day when Ufilov had better picks than the algerian ! so Congratulations to Silver Medalist Ufilov and Poland who proved once again how good he is with predictions almost never leaving top 4 except on Day 1 (7th place) and Day 8 (5th place).
Congratulations also goes to bestmen and Algeria who showed a great talent with his picks : he made 12 perfect prediction all tournament long and he is the only one to make a double perfect prediction for Semifinals , good job bestmen  ! (we'll see about your bonus idea  )

Italian Dunadan clinches 4th spot from Polish rybak who had a great tournament always being in top 5.

Great overall result for team Poland with all three players in top 10! though it could have been an impressive top 5 finish for them if only Pavlo didn't drop at the last day (if he didn't predict Norway to be new World Champions )

Unfortunately some players left the contest  I hope that's not a bad sign here
Thank you all who participated for this first contest of the year even if the number wasn't that large  we can certainly do better than 25 players for the coming contests .

For my part I tried to do my best to make this contest come true  even if it came a little late, I hope you enjoyed it!
See you soon for another contest !

Now please stand up for the national anthem of Romania !

Working on prediction contests isn't that easy I admit it, it takes a lot of time and energy but at the end it's a good feeling of satisfaction

Now we are (I am actually)  going to prepare for the next prediction contest which is coming soon , the first Rugby contest of the year :Six Nations Championships  so you can prepare yourself from now, the prediction design should be ready tomorrow morning, I hope the number of users will increase a bit more especially among Rugby fans .

    Any help will be welcome

I've been looking at the 2017 sports calendar with some help from MCMXC who gave an idea of a calendar here . So here is a long list of events I took the maximum
We are going to keep only half of them at maximum otherwise it would be infernal . What are your suggestions? some new sport to include?

in Blue contest that are very likely to take place
in Red those which we are not sure about

Well, I'm kind of a purist for prediction, so I don't like any kind of bonuses (I don't even like the multipliers for knockout stages!). I think they increase the "luck" factor and decrease the "pure knowledge" factor to decide the winner, which I don't like too much.

I don't know how it worked in the past (was this general standing really updated? Did more users participate? ),  but the presence of a general standing itself should encourage lower ranked users to be interested until the end of the contest: gaining positions would mean gaining more points in the general standing, even without bonus points.

  10. Love
tuniscof reacted to Pavlo in [PREDICTION CONTESTS] Discussion Thread
what kind of bonus do you have in mind? It would be possible to make 1 bonus match per day with some extra points for users who will predict the exact result - good for handball, basketball, water polo, rugby and ice hockey - high score team sports. In football it could be which player scores first (field hockey the same), in volleyball maybe how much points the best scorer will have. Final points (without hundreds) of winners in figure skating etc.

But do we need it. Wouldn`t it turn more like to bet contests? For me the simpler the better

tuniscof reacted to dcro in [PREDICTION CONTESTS] Discussion Thread
I have an idea regarding the prediction contests. Maybe we can introduce the "Winners of the day" bonuses.

Users are ranked by points they've won in a single day of a contest. So for example we look at the first day of the current handball contest:

    Gianlu33 - 88 (10)
    heywoodu - 85 (5)
    MCMXC - 81 (3)
    bestmen - 77
    ady48 - 75
    ...

Every winner of the day gets 10 pts, 2nd best gets 5 pts and 3rd best gets 3 pts. These points are summed at the end of the contest and they go straight to the general standings for the season. These bonuses might encourage lower ranked users to be more interested in the later stages of the contest.

Obviously it doesn't have to be 10-5-3, it can be set up differently. However, with the 10-5-3 system we would have the following current bonus points from the handball contest.

And now, it's the time that everyone has been waiting for, we are heading to KAUNAS!

Kaunas is the second biggest city in Lithuania and it also has been the capital for a short time in history. It is also my hometown and the town in which Žalgiris Arena has been built. Kaunas has a lot of things to offer, for example 3 quite huge shopping centres, beautiful sights such as the Oldtown or Liberty Avenue, it is also the town of most successful athletes.

Here are the top places to visit

Here you can see the Oldtown of Kaunas and Kaunas Castle

Another thing that Kaunas is very well known for and since Christmas is already around the corner, well, we have a famous Christmas Tree designer. Not only does Kaunas win the most beautiful tree award here in Lithuania, it also rivals the trees around Europe, because of their creativity.

Before travelling to Kaunas, I think it is very important to do something that hasn't yet been done throughout the 6 TISC contests, we must thank our SPONSORS!
Apart from Totallympics, there was another thing that aided TISC every single year and it is Youtube.

So, with this segment, we are going to look at some of the best cover artists that Youtube has to offer.
Starting with a name, that some of you might know, let's look at Boyce Avenue

Next up is a very talented duet "Us The Duo"

Following them, let's introduce a very talented woman Madilyn Bailey

    Next up is Alex Aiono

    Following him is Leroy Sanchez

Next up is Kurt Hugo Schneider and friends

Another amazingly talented cover channel is Post Modern Jukebox

And I'm sorry to be ending this on a serious note, but we have to pay tribute to Christina Grimmie, whom has represented USA at TISC a couple of years ago. It is really a shame to lose such a talented artist.

We still have one last stop before we visit Kaunas

Time to check out the beautiful town Trakai. It is home to our famous rowing team that brought two Olympic medals back home this year. The venue has already had its fair share of Youth Championships.

The town is also known for one of the longest standing castles in Europe.

And now, another very important destination is the capital of Lithuania - Vilnius!

Let's travel now to Panevėžys, the 4th biggest city in Lithuania. It is mostly known for track cycling as it has one of the best velodromes in Eastern side of Europe. Many teams come to train here as well as an annual competition that attracts many stars (such as Cavendish for example) is held here

Up next let's travel to Anykščiai, one of the most prettiest towns that Lithuania has to offer. It's nature is breathtaking, there are books written about this town.

The town is not that big, but here's an opportunity to get lost

And finally from this corner of the map let's visit Ignalina. The home of all of our biathletes.

Time to get back on track with our sightseeing

Let's check what the dark blue corner of Lithuania has to offer.
    Here's a picture of Alytus

And now it's time for a pretty special city of Lithuania, where you can not only sight see, but also have some wonderful adventures and it also might attract the attention of our Slovakian friends.
    It's the town of Druskininkai

Are you wondering why Druskininkai are called the town of adventures? Well, worry not, it has the biggest SPA center in Lithuania as well as a water park.

And why would it be attractive for Slovakia? It has the only indoor skiing center in our country. It is a highly rated infrastructure as quite a few Olympic teams come to train here as well as there are FIS competitions held.

Let's take a break from sightseeing with a little segment I call
    Where Are They Now?
The segment involves every artist that has ever participated and represented Lithuania and we will be looking at how much their music changed throughout the years.

1st ever participation for Lithuania was a soul/jazz group Saulės Kliošas with their song "Sninga". Let's look at them now!

The second time that Lithuania entered a TISC competition, it was a fairly young girl "GJan" that was making a name for herself in our music industry. Let's look at her now!

Third participation in TISC was pretty special for me personally, because Lithuania was represented with my song. Let's see what I've been doing throughout the years.

4th time that Lithuania has entered TISC, it was again a song in Lithuanian, performed by our local star Vaidas Baumila. Let's look at him now!

The 6th time that Lithuania participated in TISC, we've sent Erica Jennings that is actually representing Lithuania this year as a duet with her husband. Let's look at her now!

You might wonder why we skipped the 5th edition. Well, it is because it's very special and it's the reason why we're all here tonight in Lithuania. Let's give it up for Leon Somov & Jazzu!

So today we are planning to spend some time in every corner of Lithuania, seeing the nature and the architecture.

Since quite a few of the TISC delegations decided to stay near the sea, let's have a look at that region first.
Klaipėda is the 3rd biggest city in Lithuania, it is known as a harbor city, a city historically connecting our country in trade with the Scandinavian countries and Western Europe

Next up on our list is Nida that is known for Kuršių Nerija that is oficially included in UNESCO, places to see.

Last, but definitely not least, it is Palanga, considered the town of vacations and the town with the best beach in Lithuania.
