  1. O.K to take the unusual pairing of Gibraltar and Tokelau? I'm assuming the same rules about nationality do not apply to the festival of music?
  2. IOC sanctions nine athletes for failing anti-doping test at Beijing 2008 https://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-sanctions-nine-athletes-for-failing-anti-doping-test-at-beijing-2008
  3. The Doping case involving Kristina Smigun of Estonia and the 2006 Olympics will open at the Court of Arbitration for Sport this week.
  4. World Cross-Country Skiing Championships?
  5. Terrible news from the USA. The 15 year old daughter of world champion sprinter Tyson Gay was shot dead today. She was killed in the crossfire when shooters in cars opened fire on each other.
  6. Nobody seems to be sure if cocaine is banned "out of competition". It is not under WADA rules but professional boxing works under a different set of rules. But it may not matter as Fury is also reported to have refused to provide a sample when testers from the UK Anti-Doping Agency turned up at his house. That might be more serious for same.
  7. Of the 28 names that have been released so far, most of the cases have been very weak If anyone gets angry about the story of a teenage female golfer, who recently had to pull out of a tournament due to a severe asthma attack. being cleared to use an inhaler to treat asthma then they will probably will be angry for the rest of their life. The weakness in these leaks is because we don't have medical statements to explain why these exemptions were given. It's impossible to judge without them. A few of these cases do worry me though. Is it easier to persuade a doctor to help you if, for instance, you are a big name tennis player? Does your fame help with the ease of gaining TUEs? And then there are doping violations which appear to have gone unpunished (Harting, Aloyan and others) I suspect the hackers are deliberately not releasing documents which would clear the people involved of breaking doping rules You have to study each case very carefully so avoid being tricked into believing either what the hackers or the athletes want you to. This is not the same as the German documentary on Russian doping but it might well help to prove that the TUE system is not working as well as it should be.
  8. The most likely result is that Mohammadpour will be awarded gold, the Korean will get silver but because Zielinski is under suspension they may leave the bronze medal position vacant.. That is my guess based on previous decisions.
  9. If my calculations are correct then Zielinski of Poland, recently suspended for doping, will win the bronze medal from 2012 despite finishing in 9th. 9 of the top 11 finishers in that event have either served a doping ban or being investigated for doping.
  10. IOC sanctions four athletes for failing anti-doping tests at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Maria ABAKUMOVA, 30, of the Russian Federation, competing in athletics (javelin throw event), has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she ranked 2nd and was awarded the silver medal. Re-analysis of Abakumova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). Inga ABITOVA, 34, of the Russian Federation, competing in athletics (10,000m), has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which she ranked 6th and for which she was awarded an Olympic diploma. Re-analysis of Abitova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). Denis ALEXEEV, 28, of the Russian Federation, competing in athletics (400m event round 1), has been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, in which he ranked 23rd. Re-analysis of Alexeev’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). The Russian 4x400m men’s relay team is disqualified from the events in which the Athlete participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, namely the 4x400m event in which the relay team ranked 3rd and was awarded the bronze medal. Ekaterina GNIDENKO, 23, of the Russian Federation, competing in cycling (track Keirin event), has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 in which she ranked 8th and for which she was awarded a diploma. Re-analysis of Gnidenko’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol).
  11. The IWF reports that as a consequence of the IOC’s reanalyses of samples from the 2012 London Olympic Games, the samples of the following Athletes have returned Adverse Analytical Findings: CIRICU, Anatoli (MDA) – Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (S1.1 Anabolic agents) In line with the relevant rules and regulations, the IWF imposed mandatory provisional suspensions upon the Athletes, who remain provisionally suspended in view of potential anti-doping rule violations until their cases are closed. Following the IOC’s decisions, the IWF will be in a position to take over the results management of these cases. Should it be determined in any of the cases that no anti-doping violation was committed, the relevant decision shall also be published. The IWF will not make any further comments on the cases until they are closed.
  12. There appears to be no problems wit the TUE given to Simone Biles or the basketball player. We also know Venus Williams is struggling with a serious illness. I am worried about the number of TUEs given to Serena Williams for painkillers.
  13. The 2011 World Champions beat the 1938 World Champions
  14. Yesterday six - Today it;s 2 more https://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-sanctions-two-athletes-for-failing-anti-doping-tests-at-beijing-2008
  15. The Sincraian situation is complicated. The Romanian press are saying that his sample from Rio was negative but there are some anomalies with the results that mean his B sample will be tested immediately
  16. 6 weeks ago Lidia Valentin of Spain had no Olympic medals. By the end of 2016 she could have a gold from London, a silver from Beijing and a bronze from Rio
  17. 3 boats from the same class go down the course at the same time. Time taken when boat 3 breaks the line.
  18. Archery: Remove the men's/women's team events and replace with mixed pairs Athletics: Add the women's 50k walk as soon as possible to even up the programme. Limit marathon to 100 starters. Only 2 semi-finals in each event Beach volleyball: Agree to expand to 32 teams per gender Boxing: Give final warning to governing body. Any more allegations of corruption and the sport goes. However if it stays then women's boxing divisions should be doubled. Canoeing: Small addition in quotas in sprint. Add team events in slalom. Cycling: Small reduction in entrants in road race. Add downhill mountain biking. Reintroduction of individual pursuit for men and women. Diving: Look at introduction of mixed synchro. Fencing: If possible combined all team events into 1 all-around team event, 1 fencer from each weapon (Is that practical?) Football: Remove the age limit. Make it a mini World Cup with 16 not 32 teams, Golf: Introduce a 3-person team event. Identical format to the Dunhill Cup https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_Dunhill_Cup Gymnastics: Rhythmic out - tumbling in. Rowing: Venue must be more "weather-proof" than Rio Rugby sevens: Expand to 16 teams? Swimming: Introduce 50m fly, back, breast Synchro: Sorry - must go. Table tennis: Replace team events with doubles (1 pair per nation) Taekwondo: No limit on team sizes. In some cases the 5th best in a country would have been a medal contender but since only 4 can go to the Olympics they have to stay at home. Triathlon: Add mixed relay Water polo: Expand to 12 women's teams Weightlifting:Give final warning to governing body. Any more allegations of corruption and the sport goes Wrestling: Remove Greco-Roman Also Baseball/Softball - No addition of the sport until players from the US Major Leagues are guaranteed to be there. You wouldn't watch the 100 metres if the 1000 best sprinters were missing - so why watch baseball when their 1000 best players won't be there. Karate - No place for karate as there are too many combat sports already. Frankly it's not as interesting as the current sports anyway
  19. This is a different kind of retirement I know some of the people on this forum use http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/ The bad news is that it will be closing down in the next few months. The good news is that the data will be transferred to the IOC website where it will become the IOC Olympic Statistical Database. see http://olympstats.com/2016/08/21/the-olymadmen-and-olympstats-and-sports-reference/
  20. IAAF had nothing to do with this decision. The IOC rules allowed him to compete for Spain 6 weeks earlier than the IAAF rules.
  21. O.K. So i found out exactly what happened in the keirin final. It proved impossible to disqualify anybody for overtaking the derny because the UCI had not installed a camera on the line where the derny pulls off, The only camera angle were head on or slightly at an angle to the line and neither could not be used to determine exactly who had broken the rules. Big mess by the UCI
  22. Swimmer Theodora Gianeni of Greece has been sent home from Rio after a positive test
