  2. Or Dublin, which has a US customs and border immigration pre clearance
  3. And back to the virus, the Americas qualifier in Argentina is postponed https://boxing.athlete365.org/boxing-road-to-tokyo-americas-qualifying-event-in-buenos-aires-suspended/

  8. We're also relatively good at lightweight rowing too. Kings of the european little people! meanwhile Carly McNaul has replaced Ceire Smith in the women's 51kg flyweight event
  9. Yeah there’s been a few Nevins on the scene With an OK draw I’d expect Nevin and Walker to qualify. Harrington and O’Rourke on the women side others might need a bit of luck
  10. FWIW have won 15 Olympic medals in men's boxing and all but 4 of them have been 60kg and lower! 48kg - 2 51kg - 2 52kg - 1 54kg - 3 56kg - 1 60kg - 2 67kg - 1 67kg - 1 75kg - 1 81kg - 1 And here's our team for the European qualifiers Men 52kg – Flyweight – Brendan Irvine 57kg – Featherweight – Kurt Walker 63kg – Light-welterweight – George Bates 69kg – Welterweight – Aidan Walsh 75kg – Middleweight – Michael Nevin 81kg – Light-heavyweight – Emmett Brennan 91kg – Heavyweight – Kiril Afanasev 91+kg – Super-heavyweight – Dean Gardiner Women 51kg – Flyweight- Ceire Smith 57kg – Featherweight – Michaela Walsh 60kg – Lightweight – Kellie Harrington 69kg – Welterweight – Christina Desmond 75kg – Middleweight – Aoife O’Rourke
  11. And the man who's done it has won both his fights inside the distance. Today was in the first round against a former world medalist! Pretty incredible at this level
  12. We now know 24 of the 26 quotas in women's boxing 51kg - last two are v and v 57kg 60kg 69kg 75kg
  13. Quotas so far: 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 2 - 1 - 5 other countries could join them. India still has a chance of 4 more. New Zealand is the only country left who can't add to their current total
  14. Of all sports, boxing is the one that is least suitable for just putting people in for the sake of it. It would do the Olympics no good to see some outstanding Kazakh super heavy literally give brain damage to someone who isn't good enough to qualify
  15. Forgot to update the last few from yesterday! Anyway, after the first session today here's the countries with the most fighters still involved 13 - 11 - 10 - have 7 left but all 5 in the women's section
  16. UCI have changed the rankings for men's madison. Ireland now above Honk Kong and into the last qualifying spot They haven't changed the women's rankings
  17. also have all 13 boxers left Today should see some countries knocked out
  18. Huge shock in the light heavyweight earlier with world silver medalist from Ruzmetov losing a split decision to Aokuso of
  19. That's the point. *Their* sums weren't wrong. They used the points that the UCI told them each team had. So it was the UCI's error, not Ireland's or Ukraine's The South China Morning Post are only reporting on the numbers. There's been nothing official from the UCI
  20. In the men's competition and still have all 8 but they're down to 3 and 4 in the women's events has 6 men and 4 women left In their only meetings so far, baet at mens lightweight while beat at women's feather
  21. BTW at this stage we still have 26 nations in the qualifiers. and still have boxers in all 13 weight categories. are down to one each Of the Oceania countries; 12 - 5 - 4 - 2 -
  22. The Tajikistan boxer at light heavy also fights for a place in the Olympics but he's up against the world champion from Kazakhstan Coincidentally, 2 fighters at heavy and 5 at super heavy only have to win one match to qualify (and quite a few in the women's events too)
  23. Presume they’re waiting on official word from UCI The changes are even more stark in the women’s madison so regardless of the Irish involvement, it will need explaining
  24. The awarding of points was known. They just awarded them more than in previous years, and retrospectively changed the results for previous years too. As I said above, Last week Ukraine were ranked ahead of HK, then finished ahead of them at the World Championships and are now ranked below them The *Only* explanation for this is that the points for previous races were changed.
  25. Have any other rankings changed? Pretty incredible that Hong Kong is the beneficiary in both madison events with Ireland and Ukraine missing out If you look at the women's madison event in Berlin, Ukraine finished 12th, Switzerland finished 13th and HK in 14th Yet in the UCI ranks, HK move up 3 places leaping above Ukraine and Switzerland This is crazy (and I can see it getting messy too)
