  1. Effectively a European B championship with all the Olympic horses missing. Shows the strength in depth for Sweden
  2. That’s not true in the It’s weird. won gold in Rio and repeated here in Tokyo in B tandem and everywhere I’ve them listed in Ireland as Katie-George Dunleavy and Eve McCrystal. Always listed as a pair. To the point where you’d have to look up who had the disability or impairment as the names were just always listed together Until this year on the official site and on the graphics and it’s just Katie-George Dunleavy competing. Ireland is still calling them by the duo names though
  3. In the app you can click into the dates though and jump to whatever one you want. Not that bad tbh
  4. I just wanted to share one of my favourite interviews ever. Silver medal winner Nicole Turner’s joy is infectious
  5. So happy for Ellen Keane. What a star. Her first global gold medal
  6. A mix of both is fine and most sports have a system that suits them. I prefer direct qualification for most sports but rankings definitely suit some The tokyo delay added a few complications but it’ll be back to ‘normal’ for Paris you’d imagine
  7. I think he has a much better shot but his hurdling does need to improve. Hit at least 3 in his semi final
  8. And before tiktok it was snapchat, before that Instagram, before that twitter, before that Facebook, before that chat rooms and before all of them video games and before that even TV was being talked about as a reason for ‘the youth’ being less interested in sport People have more choices than ever before but sport and the Olympics is still huge
  9. I honestly can’t see how anybody could have any sympathy for weightlifting They've had years to try and clean up their sport
  10. Not to mention many of the top athletes will clearly prioritise the world championships
  11. Good start for with Lara Gillespie fastest qualifier in the u23 pursuit
  12. Countries who won medals at the 2018 championships missing this time There may be others I’ve missed
  13. It’s a completely new team for Ireland too in showjumping Sending a 3 combo team to the dressage champs too
  14. It’s only the second medal won by Ireland at world junior level btw Edit: and the first rows for GB now…
  15. Yes. They pulled out in June (For some reason I can’t post links on mobile) Actually here it is
  16. The finals will be streamed live on the world rowing YouTube channel for anybody interested
  17. This is the only sport where they drug test to make sure there is some IN your system
  18. Jason Smyth is pretty well known in Ireland. He has won gold in each of the last 3 Paralympics. He even qualified for the (able bodied) European championships in 2010 making the semi finals Before Mona McSharry reached the Olympic final this year, Paralympian Ellen Keane may have been the most famous swimmer in the country. She’s involved in advertising campaigns for several brands. She won bronze in Rio (and the 2019 world championships). The team will hope to win 10-15 medals total with athletics and cycling being our strongest sports usually
  19. Indeed and lots of top countries (and some middling ones) are missing it too
  20. I think under 23 is definitely a better barometer for ‘strength’ sports. It’s tough too using the Olympics as some countries will have much deeper strength in depth seeing their best under 23s nowhere near the Games. They may still be stronger than some who qualified with other countries. Looking forward to seeing your list though as it’s an interesting area
  21. I can’t give you the info you need but I can tell you that Irish 800m runner Mark English got the standard while running to get the standard for Tokyo (last day possible!). There won’t be too many people who qualify for Olympics and world championships with the one race!
  22. Can’t speak for @Oldira@OlympicIRL as they’re the main 2 other users but I don’t really see a use for a separate Irish forum I come here for general news from around the world particularly in sports that aren’t covered well in Irish media (or English language media really)
