My super hot take is that I welcome more mixed team events (for events that don’t have and can’t easily gave single gender team events).

Ya, I definitively understand how bitter this must feel. She sacrificed quite a bit to represent Canada specifically to compete in Tokyo. I don’t think Klimkait would have had much of a chance under the original selection plan. However, ultimately, how do you not send the defending world champion when worlds were less than two months before the Olympics? It just really sucks that Canada has two world champions *ever* in Judo and they fight in the same weight class and are one year apart.

The Aloha cup is a mixed team event.

I think it's more a combination of luck (there is a lot of variance in hockey) and a bunch of players who really gelled and played better than the sum of their parts. On paper Canada wasn't anywhere near the best team in the tournament. Very weird to win the Hockey worlds in what is, unquestionably, a big upset.

Good thing we had the UQOT, otherwise may not have had any athletes at the Olympics.

I don't care that they won, I stand by my assessment that this is the worst team Canada has sent to Worlds in the NHL era :P

Ya, not saying they aren’t French, just saying they aren’t geographically from Europe. The fact that Thaiti and Reunion are French doesn’t mean they are in Europe (just like Hawaii isn’t in the Americas despite being in the USA).

Baseball was 1/8 in 2008, and even then the European qualifier had many players from the Americas. Just like many of the French surfers come from Oceania, not Europe.

The US will almost certainly use this spot for a specialist.
