  1. Most people on the left would argue that the issue with how capitalism currently works in the US is precisely that there is a big disconnect between who does the work and who gets the benefit from said work, so I'm not sure banal platitudes are super helpful here.
  2. American Jews are not in lockstep with Israel, at all. Traditionally Evangelical Christians are the most pro-Israel religious group in the US. And that's a religious group that is fairly marginalized among the Democratic party. Democrats also generally really hate Bibi. Some religious groups in America tend to not be super, well, religious. Many Americans consider themselves Jewish or Catholic despite not practising their religion in any meaningful way (as a random example, this American considers himself Catholic despite being an atheist).
  3. It would have to be contingent on Japan agreeing (and potentially guaranteeing them 2032).
  4. At this point I think the IOC should seriously consider holding every discipline in a different region of the world for 2021 (or 2022) and make these "virtual" Olympics. They get their money from the TV contracts anyway, as long as they can put a product on TV it doesn't particularly matter where it's from.
  5. Scandinavia isn’t a good example of socialism working because none of the Scandinavian countries are socialist...
  6. There are a lot of centrist Democrats in the senate. And I’m not just talking about Manchin and Sinema. Sanders would not be able to get 50, let alone 60, votes for the more extreme aspects if his agenda. Trump signed well over 2T in COVID-19 relief into law. Does that make him a Communist? Is Germany a communist country because they don’t have college tuition? Communism and Socialism isn’t just synonymous for any political position you don’t like.
  7. You clearly don’t understand how the American government works if you think that. A Sanders presidency, even if Dems held both houses of Congress by much larger margins than they do now, would not have moved the US to nearly that extend. Even if Sanders got to be dictator for a few years he wouldn’t turn the US into a Communist country, but it also happens that the president is not an elected dictator, they face a lot of constraints.
  8. Communist Poland was, of course, famously on the vanguard of LGBT rights.
  9. All Calgary world cups are canceled, and Calgary won’t host the non-Cross world championship for freestyle skiing and snowboarding.
  10. Hopefully we will have more competent executive leadership than we did over the last four years. The last year has been extremely rough in America, much tougher than it had to he even with the pandemic.
  11. Skoda will withdraw as a sponsor if the tournament remains in Belarus. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/skoda-sponsor-belarus-hockey-worlds-1.5876308
  12. Good, it would be frankly scandalous if the Dutch NOC did not select her.
  13. Liz Cheney (WY-AL), the third most senior Republican in the US House, will vote for impeachment. Trump being impeached for a second time tomorrow is essentially a foregone conclusion. His trial is unlikely to happen before the end of his term, but the Senate will have the opportunity to ban him from holding any federal office for life, which would prevent him from running in 2024.
  14. Can’t wait for Doha to host the Tokyo 2020 Olympics sometimes in early Winter 2023 ?
  15. I believe this is the first International winter competition of any kind Canada has won this winter.
  16. After what feels like a month of counting, Congress has formally declared that Joe Biden is elected president and that Kamala Harris is elected vice-president. It is over, there is no theoretical long shot hope left for Trump.
  17. Exactly, removal from office would ban him from holding any federal office (not just the presidency) for life.
  18. It appears that Jon Ossoff and Radical Socialist Raphael Warnock (as he was called by his opponent) have won the regular and special senate elections in Georgia, respectively. This means Democrats will have control of the US senate by the narrowest of margins, 50-50 with the vice president being the tie-breaker.
  19. I think the animated pictograms will be a big improvement over the still pictograms for broadcasts.
  20. I thought the crash happened at the start of the banked turn, may be wrong though.
  21. You really miss out on that kind of unintended comedy when you watch the commentary-free clean feed on Peacock.
