  1. First quarterfinals: beats 5-3. Worst finish for Canada since the 70s. Also this is ominous: https://twitter.com/Devin_Heroux/status/1380740188192845842
  2. And is the sixth and final team to qualify. After leading late in the round robin with a 7-1 record Norway loses *five* games in a row.
  3. It also appears that is also qualified.
  4. Turns out is also qualified due to not being last among any potential head to head scenario among five loss teams.
  5. Also, and not Russia advanced to the semi-finals. As @mrv86 mentioned qualified to the playoffs and the Olympics. Scenarios for qualification: qualifies with a win over . qualifies with a win over . qualifies with a win over and a win over .
  6. The - match tonight is extremely important. The loser will drop to a fifth loss. The match is especially pivotal for Canada - if Canada loses the match they no longer control their destiny, as has the head to head tie-break over Canada. The winner of the match is guaranteed to qualify if they win their final match tomorrow. and are still mathematically in the race, if my quick calculation is correct they need to win all their remaining games, Switzerland to lose at least one game and the loser of Norway - Canada to lose their final game. And that just gets them to the mess that is the tie-break.
  7. I can't believe it's not Russia™ is the second team to qualify for the playoffs and the Olympics. They've been having a great week.
  8. is the first team to qualify for the playoffs and, as such, the Olympics.
  9. Only for mixed doubles. Men’s and women’s is top 6, but is in the top 6 an extra quota is added to the final qualification event.
  10. At this point all appear to be cruising towards Olympic qualification. They are two (or 2.5 in the case of Norway) games ahead of the 7th place team, with only 4 (or 5 for Norway) games remaining. are battling for the sixth place, but the USA is definitely in the driver’s seat there. They are half a game ahead of Switzerland and a game ahead if Italy and, crucially, they hold the tie-breaker over both teams. The only silver lining for the Swiss is that on paper they have a slightly easier schedule ahead of them. Italy is going to need to hope both teams ahead of them drop a couple games to teams that are towards the bottom of the standings. Edit: I am obviously rooting for Switzerland because their accents when they talk to each other in French are just delightful.
  11. I really can't imagine Russia, err sorry, the athletes that are totally not from Russia, boycotting these Olympics unless something truly wild happens.
  12. Is “The team formally known as the Russian Curling Federation team” acceptable?
  13. Apparently Korea’s first ever win against Canada at the men’s worlds. Canada scored 4 points in the 8th and stole 2 in the 9th to take a one point lead, but it just wasn’t enough.
  14. The way Dallas county does things is very good. But it is also seemingly one of the best run election systems in the US. So I can’t speak for elsewhere.
  15. I can only speak for how it works in Dallas county, which is the only place where I've voted in the US: the voting machine prints a human readable ballot receipt. The voter reads the receipt and then feeds it into a tabulation machine that counts the ballots. The results displayed on election night are what the tabulation machine spits out (which is why Dallas county has almost complete results available within a few minutes of polls closing). The paper ballots are then used for auditing and recount purposes. It's really hard to talk about how Americans votes because every state does is differently, and even within a state every county does it differently too.
  16. I wonder if Yuzuru Hanyu will cause an International incident at the 2022 Olympics when his fans will throw hundreds of Xi Jinping plushes on the ice.
  17. Glad to see Andreescu appears to be back in form after a looooong injury layoff.
  18. Praise be to this forum, one of the few places that got it right immediately xD
  19. So I checked and 2021 is by far the closest we've ever been to having three non-European teams in the men's handball world championship. Argentina ruined it by finishing 11th.
  20. She should just get Belgian citizenship, qualify the extra spot for them and compete. The Dutch NOC legitimately seems to be one of the worst NOC to represent, tbh. The internal qualification criteria tend to be insane.
  21. I am quite frustrated at how vaguely the qualification system is written tbh.
  22. Japan gets their third spot and the US are eligible to earn a third spot with nothing to spare - both accumulated 13 points. The US maintained eligibility for a third spot by 0.21 points... that was a close call.
  23. I know there is a whole other group left, but unless some absolutely insane things happen this is basically done. Women's singles quotas, assuming there isn't any meltdown of historical proportion: 3 quotas: 2 quotas: 1 quota: Countries that can earn an extra spot: The USA needs Karen Chen to finish third or better to be able to earn a third spot.
