pdr4332 got a reaction from JamDH in Summer Olympic Games 2020 Ceremonies
Its not worth debating with rajiv. Since I read his/her rambling posts, they denounced/insulted "Eastern Europe" (this together), Germany, Italy, and a bunch of other countries and regions. Might even be a troll.

Since never. In my defence, I lived in Korea for 10 years and China for 4. I've only visited Japan. I get the xenophobia here, but I don't accept it. And I don't accept it from anyone else.

First part meh,
Parade of Nations, I enjoyed, I´ll always enjoy, so sad we´ll miss one NOC this time ( )
Second part, much much better (after the speeched obviously). The picogram sequence was great. loved it.
Cauldron lighting always with goosebumps. and honnesly if not the commentators I would not even know it was Osaka lol, sometimes I feel living under a rock lol
So the flame is on. The games started.
Good luck to all athletes and may all Totallympics users countries win medals

All useless, I heard that the Games will be cancelled in 16 days, a lot of countries will pull out, all confirmed by reliable inside sources.

Important to add though that the match in question was in beach handball, not regular one. The rule they allegedly broke is stupid anyway.

pdr4332 reacted to NearPup in Summer Olympic Games 2032 Bid Process
I actually think it's good for the IOC to show that they will accept a good bid from a "secondary" city.
Brisbane is going to host great games, who cares that they aren't a major world city?

There are also reports that the virus can be transmitted via internet, if you are in UK (where all fully vaccinated people are dying like flies) you should turn your wifi/data/whatever off during the Olympics. A small sacrifice to save us all.

Response rates are terrible and are falling down with every year. Biggest issue for pollsters is how to reach representative sample in this day and age..

That's why I wrote yesterday that in place of the players concerned I would stay away from social media for a few weeks.
The bird-brained contingent of alleged "fans" did not disappoint, as expected.

Indeed (speaking about the London games in general). For me, 1992 was the peak of modern XX century Olympics, and the same way, 2012 was the peak of XXI century Olympics. Dont even know whether it is going to be surpassed, even though we are only at the second decade of XXI. c. :D :D

So it's officially going to be the "silent Olympics".
I hope they will find some ways for the audience to interact with the athletes. I liked it a lot when the winners at the Aquatics ECh got to see a short clip of their family members after their finals. They will need gimmicks like that at the Games to make it feel less depressing.

pdr4332 reacted to Makedonas in Summer Olympic Games 2020 Team Sizes
I think for us the problem was that we invested a lot for athletes to be in Athens and still had some of those leftover for Beijing, but by the time London came around so many of them had retired. Plus we had an economic crisis which began between Beijing and London so that obviously didn't help either. However it seemed like for some sports there was no vision after Athens. It was like we focused on Athens so much that we neglected the future after Athens. I'm not sure how much Brazil focused on the future after Rio. China and the UK seemed to do a much better job than Greece in that regard.
We also very well could've had 128 instead of 103 in London. We had two shock non-qualifications (men's basketball where we were ranked 4th in the world and women's water polo where we won the 2011 World Championships), so those two sports obviously played a role in our massive drop in team size from Beijing to London (we qualified both of those teams in Beijing).
And please don't say that we will have 73 athletes in Paris, I refuse to believe it
To be honest though I think in Paris we will go back to 100+. We have a very young team going to Tokyo so I expect many to return, plus we have a lot of good young athletes/teenagers in sports like athletics, swimming, rowing and a few others which gave us hope. Plus having France host might make it easier for us in some team sports, especially our men's and women's basketball team as there will be one more European spot.
