Is there any chance for Sumit Nagal (SR 77) and Yuki Bhambri (DR 54) (CR 131) to form a doubles team?

I doubt it.  Almost definitely not in the first list.  Maybe after withdrawals and all that, as some sort of last minute entry.  Even that looks quite improbable.  The combined rank may not fall much below 100, I would imagine.

  2. SoonWoo Kwon confirmed today that he is officially in with his PR ranking too.  Chosun Ilbo newspaper (in Korean) reports this ("Kwon SoonWoo is going Paris!" is the title)

The article says that Kwon has posted the confirmation on social media.  As his PR is 80, it means #79 Mensik is also in.

Unfortunately due to vertebra injury he hasn't been on court for some time. He was hoping to make it to Wimbledon and he was nearly sure he would be able to make it to Paris. Unfortunately, the injury still does not let him play. Such a talented player and big loss for our tennis team at the Games 😭

Yes, it is really sad for a young player with so much talent.  He just can't seem to stay healthy.  Has hardly played 4 or 5 events all year but has done quite well when healthy.

Karatsev is ranked 92, if he is in, this means the following players are also in: :CZE Mensik, :BEL Bergs, :JPN Daniel, :GER Marterer and :CRO Coric.

I suppose it is probably still too early for us to be sure of this.  Karatsev is probably only nominated to IOC who may have told Russian federation that he is an alternative as of now (like Sumit Nagal is).  But I am pretty sure that these guys will be in the first official entry list that comes out in 2 weeks.

  5. Anybody has any update on the last entry as of now on the men's side?  Wiki still says Sumit Nagal (so Mensik must be next in line) even after Nishikori is announced as using his PR.  All India Tennis Association had said 4 days ago that Sumit was still an alternate as per ITF.  Wondering if things have changed...

I hope that Menšík will be in. But i think that it is not against rules. It Is not neccessary to be part od Davis Cup/Fed Cup, but have interest to compete (example with Badosa is good enough)

Anyway, in the end, I am sure Mensik will be in.  This early cut will drop  quite a bit.  Probably at least 5-6 spots.

They "bend the rules" like this all the time, there are many examples, especially when a player recently rose up like O'Connell did. He spent most of this Olympic cycle out of the top 100 and only recently is now well inside the top 100.

It really was not realistic for Australia to select him in Davis Cup in 2021 or 2022 for example.

But that is all Australia's problem.  Czechia need not pay for that.  AUS could have selected him earlier this year and Hewitt didn't.  Now they cannot cry about it.  And ITF should not pay heed if they do.

Mensik is just 18 years old.   A super-talented player.   The only player aged below 19 in the ATP top-200.   He had come up from #140 to #77 in the last 4 months or something, right?  To screw him out of a chance to play at Olympics, just to be nice to Australia smells awfully foul to me.

(I am an Indian, and don't have a dog in this fight.  I just felt bad that Sumit Nagal pushed the young kid out of that last spot.  But he actually didn't.  As per ITF's rules, Mensik should still be in!)

They are sometimes lenient with the rules, especially for a country like Australia who has many great players and probably didn't have many opportunities to be picked for Davis Cup anyways because he had other countrymen ranked higher than him!

I don't think they can do that.  Rules are rules.  They had better not bend it in this case.  If it was for a top-20 player, I can understand.  But O'Connell is #67 and Mensik is #78.  To screw CZE out of their third player, only to allow Australia to get a 4th player in, would be just wrong!  Czech Republic should certainly protest if they bend the rules.

Exactly as @evil bettysaid, we have to wait about Protected Ranking (Nishikori probably will use it, Cilic dunno), but Nagal is in the last spot and as of now is qualified to Paris. Anyways, if 2 or 3 players announces their withdraw sumit is in no matter what because there are not too many PR in the mens draw

Are you sure Sumit is the last one now? I think Mensik is still qualified right now, behind Sumit.  I think Australia has only 3 qualified players (DeMinaur, Thompson, Popyrin).  O'Connell has not been in Davis Cup teams.  I think there is one extra spot available over the list we have here, and it goes to Mensik, right behind Sumit.

Can you confirm?  I don't see O'Connell in the Australia teams at DavisCup.Org.

Sumit qualifies, found out this a couple of hours ago, but i doubt it will happen

Not so fast!  Sumit just won his semifinal at Heilbronn.  The list does not get finalized till he finishes his final tomorrow.

He was the only one still controlling his destiny in qualifying for Olympics since yesterday and he has won 2 matches to keep it going.
