  1. FIS wants to kill off the combined event and doesn't even host it on the World Cup. They want to promote parallel events instead. IOC still keeps combined in the programme but I won't be surprised if it's axed after 2026 and makes way for the parallel event (which might be the most unfair event ever due to clear difference between courses as evident by last year's Alpine World Champs).
  2. Longevity is no longer an asset in the women's division. I'd be shocked if Russia fields a female soloist aged 20 in competitive skating in the next decade or so. Even being 17yo could be deemed as 'too old' for winning. It also doesn't look like Japan, USA or Canada can mount any pressure either.
  3. Yeah, this is obviously our most competitive event in luge these days. They finished 12th in Pyeongchang. They're the highest ranked crew from a country that doesn't have an operational luge track
  4. Wendl/Arlt make it three in a row. Eggert/Benecken just can't win at Olympic Games.
  5. Chmielewski/Kowalewski can't finish worse than 9th. First Top 10 in doubles for Poland since 1976!
  6. Well, managed to crash literally at the line but still beat
  7. No Chinese in the final so I guess we might avoid shady DSQ. How many stay upright in the end is a big mystery though.
  8. 10 athletes in A Final. Someone will get a free medal after multiple falls
  9. Geiger wins! Graabak 2nd! Greiderer 3rd. Rydzek led with 800 meters to go and finished sixth 21 seconds back
  10. Rydzek looks good, Greiderer suddenly looks really tired and might lose a medal.
  11. 2,5 kms left and the gap is down to 18 seconds. Geiger obviously doesn't watch cycling. He's pulling the chasers back even though there are two Germans in the leading group. Julian Schmid is dropped. Bronze suddenly available?
  12. The gap has grown to 31 seconds at half-distance. Not much excitement here.
  13. Greiderer & two Germans together - still 26 secs ahead of Lamparter & Herola after 2,5 kms.
  14. beats 1-0. The only goal was scored when Swiss player kicked the puck into his own net
  15. Lamparter can make up 26 seconds to Greiderer? I assume Japanese will struggle in cross country as usual.
  16. I'm afraid in Slovakia it's better off being ice hockey player #856 than ski jumper #1?
  17. I remember Jacobellis said something similar after 2006 final though. She said "I was having fun". Yeah, throwing away a gold medal is fun? She's older now and I bet she regrets that 2006 final for quite a while already.
  18. It does help this event is a low-hanging fruit with the same names competing for top places over & over again. And the fact Jacobellis hang around for so long tells me she really wanted that gold medal on hindsight. USA generally doesn't care about second place finishes by default.
  19. I bet she has regretted making that comment for years now. One of the easiest things to mock in WOG history. You don't throw away Olympic gold medal like that.
