Poll 67/100 | Who would be the dream flagbearer(s) for your nation at the Tokyo Olympics?

Recommended Posts

I believe some nations have already decided but if you got the opportunity to choose 1 or 1 in each gender who would they be?

My dreamed

Male: Peter Sagan.

the best SVK athlete of history, but never going to happen, since road race is always the next morning

Female: No idea, Danka Barteková already was in Rio our flagbearer so it would be fair to honor somebody else this time, maybe Zuzana Rehák-Štefečeková ?

My Expected

If we go with the current trendy M+W I believe we will choose a canoe slalom male (and since our flag bearers are usually former olympic medalists) I expect Matej Beňuš, and for women I think it will be in fact our two time Olympic W Trap silver medalist Zuzana this time

The names however should be announced the 1st of July during the final nomination approval session of our NOC

In my opinion Brazil should have:

Male: Izaquias Queiroz (canoeing, 3 olympic medals in Rio)

Female: Formiga (football, she is going to her seventh olympics. She is 43 and stills playing in a awesome level)

:ITA Italy have already chosen Jessica Rossi (Shooting, women's Trap Olympic Gold medallist in London) and Elia Viviani (Cycling, men's Omnium Olympic Gold medallist in Rio)...

I'm absolutely OK with them, even if normally I don't like the idea of having "competitive athletes" carrying the Flag...

Honestly, If Cagnotto had decided not to retire and would have qualified, it would have been great to see her as the standard-bearer.

:IRL Sanita Puspure and Thomas Barr, or failing that Katie Mullan and Billy Dardis, the captain of the two team sports we've qualified, the first time we've qualified two teams in two sports since 1948

:GBR Jason and Laura Trott - Greatest male and female Olympians, married couple, both going for outright records, and it would just be cute. Failing that, Helen Glover and Ed Clancy.

Purely hypothetically I'd go with two great athletes in their final Games: Epke Zonderland (gymnastics, gold in London) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (swimming, multiple golds in Beijing and London).

No idea who will go to the opening ceremony or carry the flag in practice. Other candidates would be Lobke Berkhout (sailing), Eva de Goede (hockey) or Edward Gal (equestrian).

    • The fact that he threw only 3 times over 70m tells you everything you need to know about Ramona. It's pure wind doping and you know it. It doesn't matter who competes there or not, the rules should be stricter when it comes to outside sources like the wind. If say 100m sprinters had such help they would run close to 9s. Those records wouldn't stand, but somehow they're still allowed in field events. If these records had any legitimacy the athletes would be throwing close to that mark regularly, yet they do not. That's my problem, I have no problems with athletes who go there to compete.
    • Such a cute venue. Really glad they found a use for it at these games.

    • Spring Nationals, Day #2   sleepy and somehow disappointing day in Riccione...until the last individual race of the day, when the unthinkable happened: the next big thing in Italian swimming revealed herself well earlier than expected    Alessandra Mao, in fact, despite being only 14 (not even sure she already turned 14, actually), won the National title over the women's 200m freestyle in 1.58.86    given that she basically doesn't have a decent start nor turns and she's not doing any power training in the gym yet, I hope (and think) she has room to become a world star in the next few years   Today's other champions:   women's 50m back: Sara Curtis, 27.90   men's 50m fly: Lorenzo Gargani, 23.32   women's 100m fly: Costanza Cocconcelli, 58.04   men's 100m breastroke: Nicolò Martinenghi, 59.16 (world champ qualifying time...good to see the Olympic champion back on track, despite not in his best shape both mental and physical); in the same race, Ludovico Blu Art Viberti slept big time in the morning heats and was forced to swim in the B Final, which he won in 59.04 (but since he didn't do it in the A final, the time is not accepted as a world qualifier for now)   women's 200m breaststroke: Francesca Fangio, 2.23.67 (only 7/100 of a second outside the world champs qualifying time)   men's 100m back: Christian Bacico, 53.61
