ITG confirms what I wrote about Vietnam, they will most probably be banned from the Olympics :(

And now :VEN will likely see their participation limited to 2 lifters in each gender (not that it was likely they could qualify more)

Romania likely wouldn’t be allowed to send lifters: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1103733/romania-facing-tokyo-2020-doping-ban

If someone takes a look at the IWF calendar , there is no qualification event left in the calendar except the continental championships. (the last one was a tournament in Colombia which is cancelled/postponed now)

https://www.iwf.net/competitions/calendar/

even those continental champs are not a sure thing considering the pandemic but if nothing else happens only 1 event is left for each athlete to collect more points! the calendar actually says the Oceania "senior" championships will be held in August !! (after the Olympics) , per new rules, particiatping in one event in 2021 is mandatory for everybody, so I don't know what Oceania athletes are going to do ! and some guys like Om Yun-chol needed to participate in 2 events to be eligible. so technically he is out of the Olympics.

but I expect to see some major changes in the qualification rules. this is not going to work.

PS: IWF sucks but we knew it for so many years.

it seems IWF got IOC's permission to extend the Olympic qualification period

https://www.iwf.net/2021/03/05/update-extension-tokyo-2020-qualification-period/

the Olympic event in their calendar will finish on 31 May, so it seems 31 May is the new deadline.

    • Can these be covers are do they also have to be originals?
    • awful... the track is as fast (slow) as in Hamar Meike Veen skated the same time in the 1500m and Serena Pergher did the same in the 500m I think by February it will be even faster
    • I like the concept of this Festival of Music! I will also share a couple of Christmas songs from Spain's TISC Open 2024 representative David Bisbal.   The first one 'Los peces en el río' (The fish in the river) is a flamenco/pop cover of a traditional villancico originated in the 1500s and the second one 'Todo es posible en Navidad' (All is possible in Christmas) was relased last year.   Los peces en el río   Todo es posible en Navidad   I hope you like them and have a wonderful holiday season!
    • you don't even have idea how it works   last week he was the best of the field and now he's in bad shape?   on Friday he was 24th despite 4 (4!!!!!) missed shots and Yesterday he suddenly went out of shape?   be serious!   he either just had bad skis or he got sick, like many other athletes (see Vittozzi)   the snow in LGB is usually shit, results are always heavily influenced by that and Italy is one of the teams that usually struggle a lot in that place   nothing new and nothing to be worried about
    • Don't look now but the Bears might actually win the division in Ben Johnson's first season as HC...
    • Festival of Music   For this year’s Festival of Music I thought I would change it up a bit. Since we are approaching the festive holiday season, I want you all to post some festive songs from your country. If you don’t celebrate Christmas then perhaps some other song that has a special place in your heart during an important celebration.     I’m going to start with a Christmas song from Ireland’s TISC Annual 2023 representatives Picture This.     Picture This - This Christmas
    • pair Danilova/Tsiba hasn't fulfilled the national criteria to participate in the Games but their skating federation has sent a request to the national olympic committee for an exception and to include them to the TeamNL. https://www.schaatsen.nl/nieuws/knsb-dient-verzoek-in-voor-olympisch-startbewijs-danilova-tsiba/
    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final
