quick question .......does India qualify for mixed team pistol just in case rahi has a MQS in 10m pistol ( she qualified in the 25M pistol ) .....we already have 2 men in the 10m men ???

The system just says they need to be double starters so theoretically they can be also 25 m I think.

yes, now Rahi only need the MQS in the 10m air pistol to be eligible to make the mixed team event...

I think Germany has a quota place in Mixed Air pistol. Christian Reitz has the MQS in 10m AIr Pistol, so does for example Monika Karsch. Therefore both are allowed to start in Air Pistol Event at the Olympics, meaning Germany should have the quota place in the mixed. Surely one can't punish athletes like Reitz, because they happened to qualify in another discipline first?

sure, Germany is entitled to enter a pair in the mixed team air pistol competition...

but technically, the Olympic quota for those events are only the 2 awarded at the last world champs...

in practice, all the Countries can enter in those events, provided they have at least 1 man and 1 woman qualified in a shooting discipline (and both have the MQS in the air pistol)...

and it's the same in the mixed team air rifle event...

theoretically, 1 single shooter could enter all the shooting events if he/she has the MQS (as we wrote in the past, triple starts are quite common...maybe in the next future someone will go for the quadruple job)...

Wait I got a doubt. What if China gets the full quota in shooting? They have mixed team quota in 10m rifle and pistol + 2 each in individual men's and women's 10m so the mixed team starters need not be starting in individual event?

Yes. China can select three different shooters for these events. Shooter A and B for individual events and shooter C for mixed event.

Indeed. There is no better prize for a lifetime effort than becoming an Olympian in mixed team shooting competition.

That situation shouldn’t arise but even if it does, she is a pretty decent 10m AP shooter as well and participates regularly in the event at domestic circuit

There is also a chance that Germany doesn't select Reitz and instead selects someone that doesn't have the MQS in 10m air pistol. Basically, it's best to wait until the 25m/50m/skeet shooters are announced before listing the nation as eligible to compete in the mixed team events.

    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)

    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
    • Maybe my analogy was bad. I meant a team points competition based on individual placements in each event.
    • But why? Honestly it should be about athletes.
    • I actually feel like it has the potential to be good change. The new brand identities might open up more possibilities for merchandise. I also think the ISU could create a compelling team standings competition similar to the constructors cup in F1.   Plus, it might add a degree of “apolitical-ness” to the top level international short track, during a time where that’s been a hot topic in international sports (in general).    Maybe it won’t work at all, but I’m open to seeing where the ISU go with this.
