Boxing Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Question: Who will be the referees and judges at the qualification events?

Answer: Only AIBA certified referees and judges will take part in the Olympic Qualifying Events and in the Olympic Games. However, the selection process for the referees and judges will be different, enhanced by the evaluation of individuals and a thorough education programme.

basically, it won't change anything...it's all a "cosmetic" farce only...:whistle::facepalm::thumbdown:

the first thing they should do, instead, is to get rid of any AIBA previously related people and hire refs and judges from the other Pro boxing organizations, especially those in open conflict against aiba...

Are you seriously suggesting that pro boxing isn't in even worse shape?  Ha ha ha

sure, no...

I'm saying that Pro boxing people are servant to other interests, which are not part of the aiba boxing spoil system...

so, hiring people who are not better than others in overall terms, but they are stranger to the aiba dynamics, it would lead to a smaller number of controversies than keeping the same people who caused so many "accidents" on the driving seat...

it's just a real change of environment and dynamics rather than the cosmetic only manouvre they're doing right now...

the situation is so desperate that any attempt is better than doing nothing and letting things go by themselves...

I really don't think pro boxing is in worse shape than amateur boxing, where a literal crime boss ruled the world for a while.

  • 1 month later...

The Dutch boxing federation is sort of trying to get Badr Hari, the criminal and way too aggressive kickboxing legend, to try and qualify for the Olympics  First they'll have to convince him to compete for the Netherlands instead of Morocco, I guess, since his whole image is built around being the hero of Moroccan bad boys.

I hope he succeeds, it'd be fun to see some wildcard boxer knock him around the ring at the Olympics :d

don't underestimate the guy and his background...

we already have the example of Jemyma Betrian, who switched with success from Kickboxing/K1 disciplines to Boxing...

and considering how poor is the current heavyweight lineup among the aiba boxers, I wouldn't be surprised if he can knock all those Kazakh, Uzbek, Russian overestimated cheaters (well not them, actually, but all of their entourage and officials) around comes the Tokyo OQT time...

Badr Hari does indeed sound like the kind of person to go and knock the officials and entourage around. Or just random people on the street who give him a bad look or something.

Filip Hrgović is apparently planning a comeback...

But he will be able to compete in the World qualifier only if our other boxer fails to obtain quota at European qualifier. :p

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
