Equestrian Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Story on Brazil losing their dressage team

Quote

The whole effort of shipping horses and competing in Europe came after Brazilians have found out, at the Pan-Am Games, that the bronze medal wasn’t enough to secure the team slot. It seems like no one, not a single rider, not the national Brazilian Equestrian Federation (CBH - Confederação Brasileira de Hipismo), had carefully read the FEI Qualification System, which was published almost two years ago. Furthermore, CBH posted on its own website in April 2018 the FEI qualification rules for Tokyo.

It's like I suspected all along. What a bunch of amateurs! Brazil had a long tradition of hosting 3* events, and this year they for whatever reason downgraded them to 2* events. It's the purest form of ignorance.

Yeah, it's pretty sad... Sadly, they aren't the first or last federation to make that mistake. I'm not sure if the people in the Brazilian Equestrian Federation are paid, but if they are then there should be some firings. You can argue that language may have been a barrier (the qualification documents are published in English and French), but Google Translate exists and as soon as you start seeing things like MER in the eligibility section then it would be time to start asking questions.

Finally some good results for :SRI Mathilda Karlsson... She overtakes Thailand, but is still well behind Hong Kong.

Hong Kong riders still don't have MER though, so there may be some hope yet. :dunno:

:CAN officially disqualified in team jumping :(

Really sad for Eric Lamaze, with his current health this is likely his last chance at Olympic glory. Hopefully he gets in? @dcro

So this means :ARG qualifies then?

Here it is. Argentina gets a team (what a joy this must be for them), while Canada gets an individual spot instead...

I just can't believe Canada will only have a dressage team. It's the complete opposite from Rio. :yikes:

Canada will be able to send one individual. Lamaze not getting selected would be surprising.

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
