Apparently the Italians are not the only team on the women's side with lots of challenges between their top starts.  It appears that Hannah Sola and Dzinara Alimbekava are not on good terms at all.  Sola was married this summer with Alimbekava the only member of the team not invited.  It appears that COVID had a role in this as well.  Alimbekava was seriously dating Russian biathlete Stretslov, but COVID prevented the two from seeing each other.  Alimbekava started training with the Belarus men's team and grew close to Anton Smolski, who was married to a former Junior Biathlete.  He eventually left his former wife to be with Alimbekava.   Sola is a former teammate and friend of the now former wife of Smolski.

Too bad Streslov isn't Belarusian, this would have been a fun mixed relay.

Yeah, Polish commentators said during the Ostersund races that Alimbekava & Sola don't speak to each other but I didn't catch why :p

Great news.  7 of the 10 teams have already accepted.  For North America, Canada has participated 2x (2016, 2017) and the US (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012).

I think we will see no Team from Norway, Sweden and France or at least C-Teams, so a good chance for other Nations like Canada.

I bet it is Canada that is invited.  I would be surprised to see any of the top Norwegians, Swedes or French.  I think Finland and Estonia, although not strong enough to bring eyeballs, would be interesting inclusions.

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto is happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps ( and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it is already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
