Men's Baseball Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Israel will not even take part into the qualification process, since most of the MLB players who started for them in the last WBC are not eligible for International play under the IOC rules...

and in any case, without their best MLB/Triple A players (they won't be able to show up at the final OQT because it will be held when the US leagues are already playing their season), they don't even exist on the Baseball chart...

the Euro/African spot would eventually go to the Netherlands...they won't even have to bother of Italy, since the new boss of our federation is trying to destroy our National team by not calling anymore the US and/or South American born Italians...so, we won't be competitive at all also in that tournament...

Its a shame baseball only gets 6 spots and sports like field hockey get double that.

A sport that can't get it's best athletes to participate doesn't deserve to be at the olympics, and much less does it deserve to have that many quota.

I think Baseball would be deserving of 12 spots if the MLB sent it’s best players. Until then, it’s a hard no for me.

Also, keep in mind baseball teams are the biggest teams in the Summer Olympics, and the second biggest teams in the Olympics period (only men’s hockey has bigger teams, and by one athlete) at 24.

Same thing happens for Spain, who came second in the last European, beaten by Netherlands in the extra time. Most of our team is made by latinos born to spanish inmigrants and don't have nacionality so they can't play the qualifiyer...

Is this certain? How can Israel represent Africa? They lost in the qualification for the European Championships 2019: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_European_Baseball_Championship_–_Qualification

And now they are representing Africa just like that? Israel isn't even in Africa. It's in Asia. And in Sports, athletes from Israel traditionally are part of the European Federations.

Ah! I somewhere read that Israel was a representative of Africa. But if they played in the European qualification, it would really surprise me if Israel can play in the OQT for Africa. Thanks for this information!

no, because you need a lot of pitchers* to make a team...

*pitchers can't throw/play every game/every day...once you've thrown a certain number of pitches, then you need a few days rest before you're able to start a game once again...

and also relief pitchers, who normally throw a few pitches a game, once every 2/3 days of work they need a day off...

you just can't pitch when you're gassed out (and, moreover, it's very dangerous...the more workload you carry, the higher is the risk of injury...and especially for pitchers, elbow and shoulder injuries are lethal)...

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
