:USA is going to be really hard to overtake on the overall table tho :P

:BRA "only" needs to win the men's and women's tournament in Paris.

And if we use the same system the US uses on medal tables -- most total medals first -- Brazil leads the overall medal table with nine total medals against eight from the United States.

Brazil shows non-Europe can still win an intercontinental men's tournament. :d

Interesting enough, an european team doesn't win the men's tournament since 1992 (Spain). :NGR  :CMR  :ARG  :ARG  :MEX  :BRA  :BRA the champions since then.

I'm happy for the result, but it's the third consecutive Football final I was sleeping, although when I was in Rio it was very hard because people were celebrating like crazy (the whole city stopped to watch that match). It's just that stage of the Games in which I'm very tired to watch a 2h30 long event :p

Congrats Brazil! I still have some vivid memories of 2002... it was the first WC I followed along and remember... and now another title. It has come full circle.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the low number of European teams allowed to qualify. However, at the same time, they are supposed to be the best of the best, still they have lost every single time in 7 years.

It has to do with european clubs not releasing almost any good players.

Though this Spain was an exception to that, they had their best u23. But France and Germany on the other hand... not at all.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
