we usually have this problem with the media and the officials here, they usually don't know the rules.

I was not surprised for that to be the case in Brazilian winter sports (where the federation was absolutely convinced they could 'easily' qualify two women for the 2018 Winter Olympics in cross-country, while that really wasn't going to work the way they thought), but weightlifting in Iran? That's surprising (to me) :d

he is probably the only who can challenge China and at worst he can win a silver , this is really stupid to throw away a medal like that. but I'm afraid it's already too late to register for the event in Colombia (unless they already registered)

I think yes, it’s too late :(

I will just break this to an investigative journalist to blow this up

I was talking about sports officials here in general but weightlifting federation is actually one of the worst. :d I think I wrote about some of our weightlifting scandals in past few years here.

both of our 2016 Olympic Champions are in trouble to even qualify for the Olympics because of "not knowing" the rules. Kianoush Rostami participated only in one event in the 2nd window and bombed out and then only after the competition he found out he will get a big fat zero from the 2nd window. Sohrab Moradi was in a great shape in 2018 and could participate in one more event to collect more points when he was in his best shape. yet he didn't and therefore he had to participate in so many events late in 2019 while he was recovering from a surgery. (two actually)

here they claim they will bring someone with a calculator to calculate how much Moradi has to lift to qualify (that will change during the competition depends on other guy's results) I had to contact some journalists and make them write something about it. I think now they know how much he has to lift to qualify but still I'm not 100% sure.

Lol you might be even more surprised that BWF forgot to implement their own rule regarding rankings and my friend repeatedly emailed them about that before they finally realized their “mistake”

In Indonesia there are not much “sport journalist”. I think many are football specialists who are “forced” to report on other sports. Since the biggest sport magazine in Indonesia stopped their activities a few years back, sports news online are mostly jokes in term of quality. Any time some athlete wins a World Cup series in a sport (like wall climbing for example) they will write “World Champions! Greatest in the World!” while we know exactly that it is just a normal, annual tournament series.

To make it worse, since the sport federation heads are mainly politicians/army generals who are close the current government and know nothing about the sport, they just came to press conference reading their script and those clueless journalists just write anyhting they can hear (many times they can’t even get the athlete’s name right!)

 it's just like you are explaining the situation in Iran , specially those bold parts . I had to explain the difference between World Cup and World Championships like million times . mostly because here Football = Sport ! and since the biggest event in Football is called the World Cup. everybody thinks that applies to all other sports automatically !

yeah we also have that problem that football journalists are forced to write about other sports. maybe only wrestling has its own group of expert journalists. Weightlifting is not that big, actually far from that, a third tier sport actually, but there are still couple of journalists about it.

Anyway @MHSN the Indonesian national coach replied to my message and he said that he actually offered Eko Yuli Irawan to compete in AWC since he did not actively request to participate (somehow I felt that he is also unaware about the qualification rule change too). In the media Eko felt that the participation in AWC is not necessary, and already focusing to the Olympics. The coach also said that he will discuss about it and requested my personal contact (but for what?

Color me surprised! I thought it was supposed to be one of the huge hits in Iran, but I was wrong!

Now, about the difference between World Cup and World Championships, I think most international federations are the ones to blame. They should name the events "Grand Prix", "World Tour", "World Series" or anything like that. "World Cup" immediately alludes to a trophy and of course the first thing anyone thinks is that the winner is the best in the world.

Chinese weightlifters broke the snatch WR twice ! 174 and 175.

but it was a bad day for Iran, our young guy Soltani injured his elbow very badly  that could win him a bronze medal in snatch (and probably a total medal) but he injured himself and that was one of those career-ending injuries. he is already in the hospital :cry:

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
    • The next chapter in the Krasnobaeva saga is upon us.   Looks like  Armenia have cut ties with her after only a few weeks. A person from their Federation has said, that they won't continue the relationship, because of her unprofessional and rude attitude towards the coaches and other officials. That includes: - having no respect to the coaches and their advise; - training without any motivation; - stops doing the routine and throws objects without any reason; - just lays on the floor and ignores the music.   When this was escalated with her mother, she mentioned that "Elvira has a strong temper and she was the same in Bulgaria and they tolerated her". Which of course is complete BS. If anyone attempted this shit here, they would be thrown out immediately.   And now  are wanting from her mother to return all finances they gave them, which she is refusing, so they will probably sue them. They will also inform other RG Federations about this situation, so they don't hire them.   My 2 cents on this is most likely Krasnobaeva was happy in BG and was forced out by her mother, so now she is sabotaging the move and be done with it.
    • Honestly Ruka is my favourite World Cup event of the whole season. Everybody is there. Later on there is always someone who skips one weekend or another . Not everybody takes part in Tour de ski. But here everyone shows up.
