Track Cycling UCI World Championships 2018

Recommended Posts

late afternoon sessions are avilable on BBC Red Button channel (free on satellite @ 28.2 East) and on BBC website (with VPN, I suppose)...

most things go also on Eurosport 1 & 2 (always late afternoon session, of course...no early qualifiers)...they also said they would have all the world champs on their player, but I can only see the usual sessions, not this early afternoon stuff running right now...

Why are the team pursuit semi finals never called semi finals, but heats 3 and 4 of the first round? This pursuit system is so annoying.

Is Krupeckaite still there? I feel like she's literally been around since the first time I ever saw track cycling on TV :p

Oh yes, she's there and she's pretty capable. She's the Kaisa Makarainen of Track Cycling, she's going to try for the final time in Tokyo. On top of that, Vasilijus Lendel and Olivija Baleišytė are very strong out of their junior years and I wouldn't completely write them off just yet.

An article just appeared on our media outlets. This is going to be the 14th World Championships for Simona Krupeckaitė, she has 12 medals (2 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze), so I'd say that's a pretty good TRACK record. :p

Last time when the World Championships were held in this city, Krupeckaitė won silver.

They should copy what the speed skating team pursuit format (the one from the Olympics).

Good start with the team pursuit in the top 4 (at least)

Very surprised to see GBR qualify fastest.

They have Ed Clancy but the rest of the team is just a sprinter and 2 amateur riders

    • is having its general election today.   In a big turnaround, the Liberals lead by Mark Carney are now ahead in the polls, after having been over 20 points behind as recently as December. This is mostly credited to the resignation of Justin Trudeau and America's on and off trade war, along with comments Donald Trump made about Canada becoming the 51st state.   While the Liberals are favoured to win a fourth consecutive election, there is a lot of uncertainty around whether it will be a majority or a minority government. There is also an outside chance of the Conservatives, lead by Piere Poilievre, will form a minority government.
    • Ukraine has made progress recently and lost yesterday on penalties to the UK, but that still doesn't explain why the Italian team isn't making any progress. We are sitting in a lower division for 3 years and that's with a ban for Rus and Blr. New and great coaches are being brought in and it's not giving any results. 8-10 years ago we were regularly playing in the highest division, every 2 years and that was with a much stronger teams (Russia and Belarus were there). I don't know where the problem is.

    • Many things, probably they thought it is already over and the win will come itself... but also Nitra improved their play a lot, they outplayed us in physicality in the last 2 games, they won almost every duel. Was hard to watch. Anyway I am still persuated we will finish the job at home with success on Tuesday
    • If you look at their results this season and on the Super Series, it’s not really that surprising.    I’d consider them to be medal contenders.
    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
    • yes, but that's only an (important) episode... I mean, what's up with your team more in general...it looks like they got the classic "fear to win", they're not as brilliant as they were in the early games of the series
