This is my issue, too. Karate would be a lot better if they had longer bouts with less stoppages.

This is why I don't like basketball. If there is a close battle, you just know that the final three minutes will turn into an insufferable series of time outs.

I still didn't really figure out when and why they stop the bouts. In some moments one guy kicks the other (and hard) and they go on, and on basically similar actions they are stopped.
