John Sherwood, bronze medallists in the 1968 400m Hurdles, the race in which David Hemmery ran the World Record.

In Memory of Olympic Medalist John Sherwood: The Story of a Sports Legend and Teacher - all the latest news today – 112.ua

The infamous BBC's David Coleman words were about him...

“And David Hemery is going to take the gold. David Hemery wins for Britain! Hemery takes the gold, in second place Hennige and who cares who’s third? It doesn’t matter.”

Two passings of note in North America.

Dave Johnson, age 82, baseball, longtime 2nd baseman for Baltimore Orioles and later Atlanta Braves, World Series champion in as a player in 1966 and 1970, then as a manager he won World Series with New York Mets in 1986. He later managed the US Olympic baseball squad that won the bronze medal at 2008 Olympics.

Ken Dryden, age 78, goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens throughout the 1970s and was on 6 Stanley Cup winning teams.  He also played for Team Canada in the 1960s and 1970s, but he didn't get to the Olympics with the Canadian team in 1968.  Was also goaltender for Canada in the 1972 Summit Series, and then later in life he was a MP in Canada's House of Commons.

I just hope he didn't suffer before he died, but it seems he didn't.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
