Alpine Skiing FIS World Championships 2021

They should just get rid of the combined and the other gimmick events, then they would have more flexibility. Also it might make sense to have the world champs in March when there is generally less snow.

sure, so to have the skier starting with bib #1 winning gold, the no.2 winning silver, the no.3 winning bronze, the no.4 ending up in 4th place and so on...at least if you hold the world champs on the Alps (or in Are, just like it happened in 2019)...

thanks to the climate change, there's no room for regular races in March in Europe anymore (except maybe for Kvittfjell, that's the only place in Europe where you can still find cold enough weather at that time of the year)...

on the other hand, I agree about getting rid of some races like AC and Team Event (meanwhile Parallel Slalom could be an entertaining discipline, it's only a question of using the right slope and the right course setting so to have fair races on both courses)...

Not sure which event(s) from the 2019 world champs you mean?

On the men‘s side the medalists were:

Super G: Gold for Paris (Bib 3), silver for Clarey (Bib 14), bronze for Kriechmayer (Bib 9)

Downhill: Gold for Jansrud (Bib 6), silver for Svindal (Bib 9), bronze for Kriechmayer (Bib 17)

On the women’s side the medalists were:

Super G: Gold for Shiffrin (Bib 15), silver for Goggia (Bib 3), bronze for Suter (Bib 4)

Downhill: Gold for Stuhec (Bib 9), silver for Suter (Bib 19), bronze for Vonn (Bib 3)

Bad idea because if there's too little snow you just can't do anything other than cancelling the whole champs. It's different for nordic WC when you can pour artificial snow in case there isn't the real stuff available. We've seen some nordic worlds in basically spring environement but it would be a disaster for alpine skiing. With the climate change I don't think you'll ever see alpine skiing WC in March.

Like it or not, Combined is one of the most interesting disciplines, because you never know who is going to win and demands a bit of different skills from skiers.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
