For what it's worth: everyone travelling to the Games (specifically athletes and staff, of course) will have to depart from a pre-accepted 'hub'. So far, those are only Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore, and entry into China can only be via Beijing.

Meaning every single athlete and coach will have a direct Paris - Beijing, Hong Kong - Beijing, Singapore - Beijing or Tokyo - Beijing flight, any other departure location is not possible so far.

Two negative tests are needed, one 96 hours before departure and one max 72 hours before departure, it must be done in a laboratory 'accredited by China'.

Addis Ababa, Moscow, Milan, Istanbul, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Zurich, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Seoul also have approved flights into Beijing.

FWIW, the COC was investigating a private charter... not sure if that is the case still.

Interesting.  When I came to China in October 2020 Beijing just opened up direct flights and Toronto was one of them (lucky for me).  There were only a couple of other cities at the time, but I know Tokyo was not one of them.  Just one or two in Europe, and maybe HK, but not any in the US.

HK being an approved hub is interesting because they have the same quarantine rules as the Mainland, in that you have to do minimum 2 weeks in a government approved quarantine hotel (might be up to 3 weeks now).  AFAIK, HK is not allowing layover flights either, so using that as your entry into Beijing would be unfeasible for Olympians.

It is still very hard to find flights in and out of China, especially Beijing, and they are incredibly expensive.  I would imagine most NOCs would charter flights, that would make more sense.

:PRK will not send any athletes to the 2022 Olympics. One might think it’s because they didn’t qualify anyone because no North Korean athlete has left the country since the pandemic began, but officially they are not attending the Olympics in order to protest the United States-led diplomatic boycott.

Approved by whom, exactly? Because these four hubs don't seem to be Chinese government mandated or something, but specifically for the Olympics. I can imagine for example the IOC/organizers have people at those four hubs to perform certain pre-checks or something.

Oh no, this means we will not have the neverending funeral psalms or whatever was that thing they were trying to sing in PyeongChang 4 years ago, performed by the only and only wise and respected leader Kim Jong-Un´s anti-imperialist cheerleaders corps this time in the stands :(

Yes but IOC later allowed their athletes to compete under Olympic flag as IOA.

    • Meant to ask this during the Olympics, but how many of you non-USA peeps are familiar with this song?  In case you don't know, this was written for the LA84 games by John Williams, renowned film score composer (Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park, etc.).  NBC now uses this all the time in their Olympic promos, intros, etc.   I had a friend who moved from the US to England, and when the Olympics came on, he commented that he missed this song.  So, perhaps this song is unknown to non-USers...but I have a sneaky suspicion that you Olympics nerds might have heard it.         Another one NBC uses (though I just learned myself that this was originally by French-American Leo Arnaud, called Bugler's Dream, dating back to the 1964 Tokyo games...apparently in 1996, John Williams combined it with Olympic Fanfare):      The combined version:   Edit: I'm hoping to make it to an athletics session at LA28 so I can be in the stadium where he directed the orchestra to perform this song during the Opening Ceremony.  Williams is still alive, and at 94, I hope he can hang in there two more years to see the Olympics return to LA and receive some honor.  He also composed music for Atlanta '96, and the opening theme of Summon the Heroes also gets used by NBC a lot:
