Just been confirmed.

Chuna has already taken revenge on Lithuania for announcing a diplomatic boycott. Could see revenge here but that could backfire on China and push the USA out of the games entirely.

Let's not get too dramatic... China been taking revenge on Lithuania since 2008 Olympics and Lithuanian's stand to support Tibet. Loud threats and accusations, but no real damage, as this time is Lithuania supporting Taiwain.

How can american politicians boycott attending something that they are not even invited to attend.

It is standard procedure for the International Olympic Committee to always invite certain high level reperesentatives to each Olympic Games such as the US President. Sometimes, the US President sends someone else to represent them, such as an Amabassador or other ranking official even a VIce President or Secretary of State for example.

At Sydney 2000, his daughter Chelsea Clinton represented US President Bill Clinton.

At Athens 2004, President Bush decided not to attend but did attend the 2008 Beijing Games.

At Vancouver 2010, Vice President Biden represented President Obama.

At London 2012 and Sochi 2014 President Obama sent presidential delegations to represent him.

At Rio 2016, President Obama sent Secretary of State John Kerry to represent him.

At PyeongChang 2018, President Trump sent a presidential delegation to represent him as did President Biden at Tokyo 2020.

One thing for sure at Beijing 2022, the US President was invited, as they always are.

But this time, this time round at Beijing 2022, there will be no US representives at all attending due to the diplomatic boycott just announced.

They were going to be invited if it didn’t look like there was going to be a boycott. Not offering to send a delegation representing the White House is a snub, there‘s really no other way to interpret it. Especially since Bush 43 went to the first Beijing games.

I think this could end up making people demand full boycotts. Not impossible Some important countries will end up doing so. The Nordics and the Netherlands the ones to watch.

Don’t forget Canada, another country to watch closely.

I just can’t see any scenario where Canada doesn’t announce a full boycott by November 2021. Erin O’Toole will surely be prime minister by then.

You’re dreaming.

There’s no way or any evidence that Canada Government will have a full boycott of Beijing - nor any other country.

However, Canada may well announce a diolomatic boycott as might Australia.  But that’s it.

Both Canada and Australia will send their athletes to Beijing.

Again you’re dreaming.

The International Olympic Committee always invite the US President.

It’s not China or the Beijing 2022, its the IOC who does the inviting.

The IOC have already invited the US President to Beijing 2022 as they have done for every other Olympics.

The IOC “own” the the Olympics with Beijing as the organisers.

The President Biden has announced that no-one from the USA will be taking up the IOC’s invitation at Beijing 2022.

    • Besides, I think Eitrem will be better than Ghiotto. You can see it after 1500 meters. He is younger. The whole Norwegian team is also in great shape. You just have to look at the team Norway has, how many new and young skaters there are and in our group A there is one Trentini, who takes last place. In every winter sport we invest too little money to be counted.   If Eitrem has the same form over long distances as he does over 1500 metres, he will dominate this season, not Ghiotto or Roest.
    • Looking at last season's 1st World Cup, it's worse for now and it should be the other way around. Bosa out of shape, Trentini weak. Both will drop to a lower group. It's similar to skeleton, i.e. regression instead of progress. I hope this doesn't mean Ghiotto is also in weaker form, because it could end up with 0 podiums this weekend.
    • In general, our picture for a little over 1 year until the home games looks like this:     - the women's sector is still based on one Lollo, who is 3 years older than 2022, - the women's and men's sprint sector is based on one Bosa and possibly the young Pergher (0% possobility for medal in 2026), - Ghiotto has made a lot of progress and that is a big plus. He could result to give our even 3 medals, including 1/2 gold. Our team's performance also depends to a large extent on Ghiotto's form, - the rest of the men's team is basically unchanged. There is Giovannoni in the mass start, there is Malfatti in the longer distances, but they are not competitors on the podium of a major event.   I will repeat myself: if Ghiotto continues to make such progress, we will probably win 3 medals, 2 of which gold and it will be a success. If something doesn`t work out, an injury, illness, etc. (we know from Vitozzi that this can happen to anyone), then it could be very bad. By the way, this also applies to other sports: the above-mentioned Vitozzi in biathlon, Goggia in downhill, Brignone in giant slalom, etc.
    • With the World Cup season in most of the winter sports about to begin and qualification in some sports already underway, I think it's about time for this thread.    Template    ... • Today is a day without Italians in the leads positions. I`m worried that they are not trying to revive this our sprint. There is only one Bosa and he is old. Pergher is young but she is also only one. It is a pity. After the Olympics they will probably 100% give up on the entire sprint. Our medal bag in Cortina will depend 90% on Ghiotto, just like it did on Fabris in Turin 2006. If Ghiotto will be in goodshape, he can even win 2 individual golds + a team medal. If not, it will be a flop. Apart from him, only Lollobrigida can compete in the mass start and possibly Giovannini in the men's mass start.
    • Yup, actually they have just some juniors pairs in the dance event
