Thing about Dwain was that he was actually punished far more harshly than any other athlete of his own or this era.  He had to pay back all his winnings, had all his medals annulled, was forbidden from all Diamond League meets for life & served a full two year ban.  After his ban he was only allowed to run in Championship races for which he had qualified through the British trials.

When does that ever happen now?  No-one ever pays back their winnings, only results from one year are cancelled, medals from previous years still stand & the Diamond League & other commercial circuits welcome all dopers back with open arms and full wallets.

That only happened as he admitted to the BBC what date he started using the drug  - he still has his medals from the 1999 Worlds and 2001 Goodwill games as he claims he didn’t start using it till 2002. When he was initially banned he didn’t lose his 2002 results as he told the IAFF nothing about his 2002 use.

Very few athletes admit to when they started doping.

And he did say he doped for performance gains. He must be looking at Justin Gatlin soaking up all the Nike cash and think WTF. I have to say I'm not really mad at Chambers anymore. At least he was honest in the end. Put that against Marion Jones who even lied to FBI, she was so far in her denial

And the other thing was: Chambers never complained. He never said it was anyone else's fault. After his ban he happily turned out for Team GB in all those low prestige relays like the European Cup, qualifying races etc and always put in a good job.  Also: he played an extremely useful role every year at the UK trials. Year after year we would get all these over-praised young 100m runners with big egos. At the vital part of the season they would come up against an angry motivated Dwain at the UK trials and every single year he would slice them down & win the title.  In fact, he still turns out at the trials, although he doesn't win anymore!

I met him once back around the time he was undertaking legal action against the BOA. He was quite friendly.

Apparently it’s impossible to get DSQ in a relay nowadays…

The :USA getting reinstated is a mockery of the sport. I’m sorry, but at the Olympic Games, you should full well know how to find the proper exchange zone on your own. I get that it was likely an honest mistake, and I feel bad for the athlete, but WA shouldn’t be reinstating teams at this level for things like this.

The BBC highlights show points out the issue also occurred during the second heat and it affected Brazil in that race.

We all know if Brazil was the only DQ team nobody would give a damn about it :dunno: But once they decided to re-instate USA everyone else went for a free ride.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
    • Well that was a disappointing opening ceremony. Not to mention the boss is late too...   Anyway this is another victim of bureaucracy, the initial creative director quit in October and we get this kind of show.   Original plan: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17EVayTpig/
    • Japan missed their last shot with hammer in the 10th last night against the Philippines for them to stay alive.  USA's remaining 2 games are against Philippines and Netherlands, so they have a tough road ahead, although they've already beaten Japan, so that helps for tiebreaker purposes.
    • They have already beaten Japan, so a win would them in a strong place.
