Why not Iran? They are the same like Russia and China.

the same ? in term of winning medals you mean probably !

let's say why not Poland ? Szarmiak and Zielinski brothers say hello

in past 6-7 years Iran had almost 1 positive test per year (last time 2014) which is still bad but nothing comparing to others. and actually Iranians never failed a drug test in a major competition, mostly because they test weightlifters in the national camp regularly before the major competitions, because of the costs they can't do that for all athletes and all competitions

of course I don't deny what we had with our Bulgarian coach long time ago but everything has changed since 2009 and because of the past record Iranian weightlifters are under IWF/WADA out of competition tests so many times per year.

Iran haven't 3 or more doped in the last two Olympics. It's the only criteria that the IWF decided to use.

This is indeed really how simple it is. If IWF says "one year suspension for countries that have 3 or more positive re-tests from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics", that's just really, really not complicated.

If Country A has 3 or more positives in those re-tests: ban

If Country A has 2, 1 or 0 positives in those re-tests: no ban

No discussion possible. It's really easy, so I'm rather curious why people don't understand that and wonder about other countries, that weren't even part of the entire discussion :d

Four members of Iranian weightlifting team denied visa by US embassy in Dubai ! two weightlifters and two officials, Ayoub Mousavi and Saleh Cheraghi both Asian silver medalists from 2017. fortunately all of our stars will be there in US. here is the list of those who went to Dubai for visa. because of the long visa process they can't add anybody else to the list. the Iranian federation is trying to solve the issue with the help of IWF and the US NOC, but they will probably fail.

69: Majid Askari

85: Kianoush Rostami, Saleh Cheraghi, Ali Miri, Masoud Chatraei

94: Sohrab Moradi, Ayoub Mousavi

105: MohammadReza Barari, Ali Hashemi, Alireza Soleimani

+105: Behdad Salimi, Saeid Alihosseini, Homayoun Teymouri

with all those countries missing the competition, most of Iranian weightlifters will be favorite for the medal. if Mousavi misses the tournament, they have no other option to bring Askari (probably the only one without a chance) , you can't send more than 2 weightlifters per weight,

the most interesting name in this list is Saeid Alihosseini, weightlifting community remembers him very well, he is still the world junior record holder. he had some crazy numbers in training 8 years ago. something like 215+270=485 ! but he got a life ban (later reduced to 12 years) for his 2nd doping test. apparently according to new rules his ban is reduced to 8 years and he is clear to participate, nobody knows about his current shape .they kept it like a secret.

North Korea has not entered a team for the biggest event on this year’s weightlifting calendar – and has passed up a chance to register its greatest sporting triumph on American soil.

North Korea was expected to finish top of the medals table in Anaheim as it had lifters ranked Number 1 in seven weight categories, after the removal of lifters from the nine nations which have been banned for a year for multiple doping offences - China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Turkey.

What's the point of even holding that "world" championship? It's going to be a joke.

Because you can hardly cancel a world championships only because several top nations got themselves in trouble :p

Kianoush Rostami, the popular Olympic champion from Iran who was overwhelmingly voted male Weightlifter of the Year last February, has been refused a visa by the United States.

His hopes of competing in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships, which run from November 28 until December 5 in Anaheim, California, rest on a second application to the US Department of State, which he made last week.

USA should be banned from organizing big sports event , because always same VISA problems happen , especially for Muslim countries  , if they can't separate sport from politics , why they organize such tournaments , what's the danger Rostami has for American security to be banned from participating and i'm sure he'll not be the only one , here in Egypt all athletes say America is the hardest Visa , they apply for it before the tournament with a very long period , sportsmen shouldn't be treated as ordinary people , sportsmen should be treated as diplomatic persons IMO

    • Could you send a link to these rumors about new time-advantage suits? Where did you get the information that Italy will also be using them, and have the Italians tested these suits anywhere? Unfortunately, this sport is practically nonexistent in the media here, and it's difficult to find any information.
    • Dutch Medal Prospects    Speed skating Recently, it was reported that the Dutch soeed skaters along with the Canadian and Italian skaters will wear a suit that has been developed to gain an advantage of up to 5-8% compared to previously used suits. I'm usually skeptical, but the only team that wore the prototype of this suit to the Olympic Qualifiers managed to cause a big surpris with Van de Bunt qualifying twice out of nowhere, although Beune in the same team had disappointing results. It's simply impossible to expect the same success as 2022, but of course The Netherlands should get a good amount of medals here.   500m (M) - A medal is very much possible, but not gold. De Boo would be the biggest medal contender, although he was out of form in the most recent world cup in Inzell.  1000m (M) - Definitely an okay distance for us, but obviously Stolz would be the clear favourite for gold. One medal should be doable, on a good day even two, but winning no medal would not be too surprising either. 1500m (M) - Not a great distance for us. Nuis and Wennemars are capable of medalling on a good day, but again gold is very unlikely. 5000m (M) - Perhaps our worst distance, but Van de Bunt has been a big surprise in the qualigiers so he's at least a wild card. Chances are very slim however. 10000m (M) - Similar to the 5000m, Van de Bunt is a wild card but with the progression of many others in this discipline I don't see a medal here. Mass Start (M) - Bergsma has had a couple of good results here, but again Van de Bunt is a wildcard and I'm unsure what the strategy will be. A medal is possible, gold is very difficult. Team Pursuit (M) - The team barely trained together. With a bit of luck they could scrape bronze, but not too likely. 500m (W) - This should be a win for Kok, with another possible medal for Leerdam. 1000m (W) - Same as the 500m, except Leerdam and Kok switched around. I don't expect Schulting to be in the mix. 1500m (W) - Kok, Groenewoud and Rijpma-De Jong all could medal here, but the competition is tough. 1 or 2 medals, maybe even gold, are on the table, but no medals wouldn't be completely surprising either. 3000m (W) - This is the only distance Beune will skate unfortunately, but together with Groenewoud I see a good chance of a (gold) medal. Wiklund is in the form of her life however, so she is easily the favourite. 5000m (W) - I don't really know what to expect from this distance, Conijn and Kerkhoff are quite inconsistent. A gold medal is not really possible I believe, maybe a bronze might be possible. Mass Start (W) - With Groenewoud, we have a huge shot at a medal, if not gold here.  Team Pursuit (W) - I think it's a battle for gold with Canada, but silver should be the minimum.   2022 Olympic Games: 6 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze 2026 Olympic Games prediction: 3 Gold, 5 Silver, 4 Bronze   Shorttrack As a massive shorttrack fan (I truly believe it's the best sport to watch in the world), I feel like on paper we could medal in nearly every event, but short track isn't performed on paper but on ice and that makes it very unpredictable. Compared to the last Winter Games, we have medal chances for both Men's and Women's distances.   500m (M) - This is probably the distance with the least chance of a medal. J. Van 't Wout lacks the pure pace, although he is one of the few men who are capable of overtaking on these high speeds. Teun Beur could have an outside shot, but only if he manages to start first in the quarters / semis which is a big ask. 1000m (M) - I'd say this is the best distance of J. Van 't Wout. Challenging for a gold medal is difficult, but a medal should be doable.  1500m (M) - Again, a medal should be possible but gold is less likely than in the 1000m. J. Van 't Wout is the only likely skater to win a medal though. Relay (M) - A medal is likely, but other countries have more depth. The fourth man is significantly worse than the others, whether it's De Laat or Emons. However, Van 't Wout as a finisher means I still believe a medal is possible, if not likely. 500m (W) - This is the only realistic distance with 2 potential medals. Xandra Velzeboer is the favourite to win, and Selma Poutsma is the fastest starter in the world. Michelle Velzeboer could als make the final. All in all, I could see 2 medals here. 1000m (W) - X. Velzeboer is quite comfortable at this distance, but I don't think she's the favourite. A medal is not realistic, but it's a 50/50 I'd say. I don't believe other women would have a big shot here. 1500m (W) - Interestingly, Suzanne Schulting will take part in the 1500m. Even though she hasn't performed in any international competitions, she is the biggest shot at a medal in my opinion. Still, I don't see a realistic chance of a medal here. Relay (W) - This is a strong line-up and I expect they will medal, with gold being realistic but definitely not easy. Mixed relay - Strong medal contenders, if not favourites along with Canada.  2022 Olympic Games: 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze 2026 Olympic Games prediction: 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze   Skeleton SIngle (W) - Last year Bos may have been the favourite, but this year the results have been lacklustre. There is definitely a chance of a medal here, maybe even gold, but it's not very likely.   2022 Olympic Games: 1 Bronze 2026 Olympic Games prediction: No medal   Snowboarding Cross (M) - Not a chance of medalling Slopestyle (W) - Not a chance of medalling Big AIr (W) - Not a chance of medalling Parallel (W) - Small chance of medalling here, but not very likely   2022 Olympic Games: No medal 2026 Olympic Games prediction: No medal   Bobsleigh 2-Man - Not a chance of medalling 4-Man - Not a chance of medalling   2022 Olympic Games: No medal 2026 Olympic Games prediction: No medal   Figure Skating Pairs - Not a chance of medalling   2022 Olympic Games: No medal 2026 Olympic Games prediction: No medal   Final tally 2022 Olympic Games: 8 Gold, 5 Silver, 4 Bronze 2026 Olympic Games prediction: 5 Gold, 7 Silver, 6 Bronze

    • Well... few years ago it was to much for the German National Broadcaster - for athletics they constantly said 'you can watch everything on the online stream' - but forget to set the stream and streamed nothing.
    • Do you think we will get athletes pages on the official website ? Usually athletes per sports/noc are searchable on the official olympics website but nothing so far. Only the schedule/calendar.
    • looked like the best team in the tournament outside of their hiccup against     With Qatar's "Golden Age" ending the parity in Asia has returned. On a good day a number of teams could win.   Of course, now no one is close to the top European levels.
    • Thanks for sharing it — I made the site and only found this great forum because of your post. I’ll keep updating the predictions from bookmaker odds (not only AI) until the Games. It’s not 100% perfect, but I think it gives a good overall view per NOC. I also added an interactive calendar where you can filter by country to see the best medal chances per day for your NOC: https://winter-olympics-2026.datasportiq.com/calendar I'm French 🇫🇷 , and I hope we can beat our winter record by winning 6 gold medals. We need to stay dominant in biathlon as always, and ski mountaineering is a nice addition for us we're favorites in the women's and mixed events.
