But we will reduce 5  category in weightlifting. I am enjoy watching all taekwondo categories, and I think this sport deserve for this. Qualification are so hard for athletes in this sport.

While I do agree that taekwondo is one of the more diverse sports, they also increase it by making it very hard for more than 2 athletes per gender to qualify.

It’s not really all that different than say Badminton qualification though. An NOC can qualify athletes in more than two weight class, they just have to be in the top 5/6. I’m not saying I do or don’t like the rule; I’m just trying to point out parallels in other Olympic sports.

Taekwondo never fails to excite. The sport put on a great Olympic tournament once more. Definitely a highlight of the Games for me.

I too would like to see an increase in weight classes athletes. Unfortunately, that’s unlikely to happen with how tight quotas are at the moment.

First ever silver for :MKD  !

Strictly speaking, the first Olympic medal for Macedonia for 1500 years. They were the :GDR of circa 350BC - 150BC.

I missed this amid the drama in the gymnastics hall, but this is big for :MKD ! Well done (North) Macedonia!

Why the parenthesis?

I won't get into it because you probably don't know any better but but that's wildly inaccurate in so many ways...

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
