and the first starts to sound loudly

Jiří Prskavec the czech canoe Slalom K1 world champion already expressed his negative attitude towards the new Olympic event Kayak-Cross.

according to him, the "extreme slalom" has not developed anywhere in the last four years

"if there will be no extra quotas, the only athletes who will qualify will be obviously only canoe slalom specialists, the extreme slalom specialists who would be better in this will have to stay at home. So it will be just a sort of an extra discipline for us canoe slalomers, which we do not like or really practice."

From Czech Sport site https://www.sport.cz/ostatni/ostatni/clanek/1906160-zmeny-na-olympiade-konci-tradicni-disciplina-ale-ceske-nadeje-posili-bude-se-i-tancit.html

Highly doubtful. There will almost certainly be some places reserved for CSLX, with double startes being allowed to enter as well.

I wonder how the cycling road route in Paris 2024 will look like? Finish on Champs Elysee is obvious, but what else? Race for sprinters only or any possible small climbs on the way? What do you think?

if they don't build some artificial hills around the city, I doubt there's a single point all around not featuring a true Sprinters' festival in 2024...

If anyone's interested I just wrote a review of the 2024 sports programme in Around The Rings. Would love to know your thoughts, I tried to keep it somewhat balanced :p

Are you working for ATR nowadays, or are you just free-lancing from time to time?

Fantastic article by the way :yes

nice and interesting article...

but...

but, tbh, I think you've been too soft versus the IOC's enormous mistakes and hipocrisy...

I'm not going to repeat myself making this post a pamphlet against the IOC's silly moves of the entire Rogge + Bach tenures, but I must say that I don't agree with the last sentence, too...there's nothing fascinating in watching something you've loved so much being deprived, dismantled, distroyed like Tokyo 2020 and even more Paris 2024 are gonna do...

I just don't feel any hype for those "new Games", I'm only very, very sad about what's going on...

Thanks! Just free-lancing, I kind of just write them whenever I get an idea. Really if you or anyone else here would like to publish in ATR sometime, I'm happy to try and put you in touch, so do let me know. They're real nice and you get paid $100 per article.

I hear you. I was considering making it a hit-piece but it's a bit hard to do as someone just starting out. But you know, maybe you could write! Perhaps not in ATR but in your local newspaper or start a blog or something. Honestly my inspiration to write was to share many of the feelings people had here so readers could think a bit more critically about what the IOC does.

I've always thought 'fascinating' can mean captivating either in a good or bad way. Murder mysteries are fascinating but you wouldn't want them to occur again... haha

@ahjfcshfghb

the article is very good. I only wish you wrote something about cycling men's road race - 90 riders in a race is not enough. I understand they try to change something, but they shouldn't mess with the most classic events, the core of the games. A race with 150 riders would be much more interesting.

But anyway, I hope that both Tokyo and Paris will be fascinating to watch, too.

naaa...writing is definitely not my best skill...

by the way, about the word "fascinating" it's highly likely you're right, and I've been a bit misinterpretating it because of the Italian meaning of the correspondent word (which is normally only referred to "captivating in a good way", we have other words when we want to give a negative meaning to the sentence)...

p.s. I understand you couldn't go down too hard because of the platform you're writing on...

still, I'm heavily infuenced by my absolutely negative opinion on what the IOC is doing in the last 15 years or so...and therefore sometimes I can be very, very harsh with them...

as I wrote many times, I feel just like a baby whose favourite toy has been broken/taken away...

    • China's medal prospects   Short Track Speed Skating: This is the event with the deepest emotional ties to China's winter sports, as China's first Olympic gold medal in winter sports came from this discipline. Unsurprisingly, people have high expectations for it in this Winter Olympics. Medal prospects are mainly focused on men's individual events and the two relay events. However, considering the strong strength of William Dandjinou, I think the probability of winning gold in men's individual events is very low. Instead, the main gold medal hopes lie in the men's relay and mixed relay. Medals: 1-3. My guess: 1 gold; Optimistic: 2 golds   Freestyle Skiing: The performance of this event is crucial to China's success in this Winter Olympics. Eileen Gu remains our super star and is highly competitive in slopestyle and halfpipe. As for the big air, if I remember correctly, she hasn't competed in this event since the Beijing Winter Olympics, so it's hard for me to make a clear judgment on her performance in this individual event. China has the potential to compete for medals or even gold in all three medal events of freestyle skiing aerials. However, given the unpredictability of aerials, the results could be either disastrous or brilliant. Xu Mengtao will compete in her fifth Winter Olympics. Medals: 3-6. My guess: 3 golds; Optimistic: 4 golds   Speed Skating: Similar to the situation in Beijing, the medal hopes still lie with Gao Tingyu and Ning Zhongyan. However, Stolz has shown extremely strong dominance during the Milan Olympic cycle, so I don't think there will be any gold medals in this event. Gao Tingyu has performed excellently in the previous two Winter Olympics, and I still believe he can win a medal in the 500m. Ning Zhongyan also has the potential to win medals in the 1000m and 1500m. Medals: 1-3. My guess: 0 gold; Optimistic: 0 gold   Snowboard: Like in Beijing, Su Yiming remains the star of China's snowboarding. He has maintained a very good competitive form this season, with great chances especially in the big air event, where he will aim to defend his title. He also has the potential to win a medal in slopestyle. Medals: 1-2. My guess: 1 gold; Optimistic: 1 gold   Skeleton: Men's events and mixed team events are opportunities to compete for medals, with Yin Zheng being the key athlete for medal contention. Medals: 1-2. My guess: 0 gold; Optimistic: 1 gold   Curling: China will send both men's and women's teams to this event. Both teams have the ability to compete with high-level strong teams. I predict that either the men's or women's team will reach the top four. Medals: 0-1. My guess: 0 golds; Optimistic: 0 golds   Ski Jumping: This is still a less developed event for China, but Zeng Ping has made significant progress this season, entering the top 8 in many high-level competitions. There is a chance to compete for a medal, but it will be very difficult to achieve. If it really happens, I think it will be quite incredible. Medals: 0-1   I think other events have no chance of winning medals.   summary, Optimistic: 8 golds and 17 medals;  My guess: 5 golds and 14 medals;  Worst-case scenario: 3 golds and 11 medals.
    • we're in Italy! calm down and relax...   everything necessary will appear when it will appear, possibly at least a few hours before the action starts (but don't get mad if it's a few days after the Games are underway)   pure Italian style
    • So tomorrow, the girls will made a protest prior to the mass start for the not-inclusion of Women Nordic Combined into the Olympics   I mean, yeah IOC and FIS have a point that the sport has so few medalled nations in the last decades, but in other hands they still keep in the olympics sports like Equestrian, diving or table tennis where even less nations medal for almost centuries now
    • I was just doing my prediction on the other thread, and then I calculated... I had 21 Gold, 8 Silver, 15 Bronze.  Probably a little too hopeful.   Oops!  (And I didn't even think I was being too optimistic as I was filling it out...guess so...)
    • This should be included in the Olympics soon. Every single event that’s added to the program is a positive thing.
