Doping Cases and Bans 2021 Thread

Those trials would end in out of court settlements anyway especially if an athlete who sues USTF would be suspended during a course of such trial (which makes sense since USTF would be treated as employer - isn't that what Jess Varnish argued vs British Cycling in the UK trial?).

Plus Nike (or any other sponsor) would probably pay enough money under the table for those #5 & #6 relay hopefuls so they don't file a case and block Richardson's place in the relay. Most things in USA usually come down to money in the end.

Not sure they would. In the UK Jess Varnish got direct funding from UK Cycling - in the USA athletes are not paid by the governing bodies ,

On the BBC daily highlights show just now they ignored that Greenbank chirped up about doping, giving the impression only Murphy commented on the issue but then defended Rylov by saying he has been at the top of field since Rio and said that while it looked like Murphy was not directly accusing Rylov (that’s a stretch) he was still being unfair on him,

Sounds like damage control

Probably just the pundit’s opinion. I can’t remember what he said about podium protests and the controversy  regarding Sun Yang in 2019 and Effimova and Herasimenia in 2016.

@Sindo @hckošice Could you move last two pages from this thread to doping and bans thread? It's not disscussion about swimming anymore in that case...

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
