One more lesson for totallympics euro-users that "europe > everything else" isn't always true. :yes

1) Who said that?

2) Why? Just because Tunisia won against Macedonia? You shouldn't forget that ...

a) Croatia, Norway and Denmark are in the same group and i am sure that all of them would've beaten Tunisia, so Tunisia got very lucky whit the "draw".

b) Macedonia was only 11th at the last european championships, other nations like Hungary, Russia or even Iceland are probably stronger at the moment.

I think Tunisia would barely rank among the top 10 european nations in handball.

I think you can see most people are happy with Tunisia's win, so your comment is a bit off :d

Well Europe is generally speaking the strongest continent in most Olympic sports.

1) many users, when the draw came in the old forum everyone was sure that Poland and Macedonia were unquestionably going to get the tickets.

2) I don't agree that Macedonia is weaker than those specific nations you mentioned (results of mid-level european handball teams seem to vary a lot with each tournament), but it isn't important to my point. I just criticize the eurocentric prejudice that made everyone predict Macedonia when Tunisia has a lot of players based in european clubs and has produced great results in the past.

Tunisia is Nederland of Africa

they are strong in all sports :d

Netherlands? They are pretty good considering their size, but ...

1) They have no teams in water polo, rugby or football.

2) Spain or France are (much) stronger overall in team sports.

    • Vivat Slovakia    But in all seriousness, it's been repeatedly stated how important it is to qualify in a team event for the next Summer Olympics. However, I have no idea if we even have a realistic chance.   We only have one fewer individual athlete competing this year than we did in Paris, so individual quota spots aren't the main issue. Where can we find a competitive team, like we do in hockey? Maybe the women's handball team could start something big, but that's still far in the future, very likely unachievable in just two years.   And to be clear, as horrific as our medal tally from Paris looked, those were some of the unluckiest Olympics for Slovakia I have ever seen. Finishing in the top six seven times (!) is absolutely insane.

    • I really hope Nordic Combined doesn't get scrapped. Actually, I believe the Winter Olympics should keep growing with new sports and disciplines (3x3 Hockey, Ice Cross, Speed Skiing, Ice Climbing), otherwise they won't feel like a true celebration of sports like their summer counterpart.
    • In fact, well, no. Hockey is extremely physically demanding, I even think it is the most physically demanding winter sport of all. I mean keeping more than a minute on ice is just cardiac. The shifts are there for a reason.   25 players rosters are absolutely justified. You must have 4 lines to keep the stamina the whole game.   Hard to persuade people who never watched hockey though, I can understand your point, but sadly, the point is wrong
    • Stats are ok, but the time she losts on the range every time... My point was that she is more likely to make us losing the olympic relay than to make us winning it.
    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
    • But her shooting surely never was horrendous, or even bad for her standards.
