Boxing Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

There must be some rules against this, this is unbelievable to participate to an Olympic qualification tournament (which is not a world or continental championship) win the quota but withdraw later ! this is not like rowing when they can easily pick the next best athlete, this is quite unfair for those who lost to South African boxers.

Well, 3/8 for us in semifinals. Martínez (-52), Melian (-56) and Peralta (-91) are qualified for OG. Only Blanc (-49) and the girl Sánchez (-60) are out of OG, the other 3 losers will have chance in 3rd place match.

Congrats to Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago for qualifying. Also congrats to our girls, hopefully one of them can pick up a medal at the Olympics.

A single quota for Mexico in the men's division; it will be hard to qualify in the last chance tournament...

Fingers crossed for Victoria Torres, who is against a boxer from the USA in Women's -60kg

Thanks MRV, at least, you have some qualified boxers before this tournament.

Yes, but if you looked at the seedings, maybe 3 or 4 boxers should have gone to Rio from this tournament

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
