2 more gold medal chances for Italy in this last couple of days...our beach volleyball girls proved that they are for real and after winning a tough battle against Brazil in the quarterfinals, yesterday they just destroyed the US girls in the semifinals...

now they have to face the favourite Russians in the gold medal match...

in boxing, our girl Martina La Piana first won her quarterfinal bout against the 2017 youth world champion Jyoti (IND, world champion on her home soil, for what counts...and for AIBA that counts more than anything else ) and then yesterday she dominated the reigning world youth champion Heaven Garcia (USA, she won the title just a month or so ago in Budapest) in the semifinal bout...

now she has to fight against a Nigerian girl in the final...she can't actually boxe, but she's still very powerful and dangerous...and you know, in boxing anything is always possible with those judges...

"Sime (ETH) was certain of a gold medal, having lead his fellow 2000m competitors in both events. However, it was unclear until later that the Kenyan had also won gold for the combined 3000 meters and cross-country."

This piece of commentary in the highlight video sums up the middle-distance format quite nicely: utterly impossible to follow.

Wait, the Kenyan is only listed as winning 1 gold medal, whereas in the commentary they said he won the 3000m and cross-country gold medals.

Final heat of the women's 100m finished, with the top-3 of stage 1 being very close together again, but this time in reversed order. It's clear who won the heat, but nobody knows who won which medal, so that's all very tense and full of waiting and suspense.....and then before showing any graphic or giving any information whatsoever, they switch to a medal ceremony, followed by the final results the introduction of 15 athletes for the next event

The positive thing about the athletics so far is that some events are really close, like Lescay vs Cowly in the long jump or the women's long jump medals all being within 1 centimeter :d

Brilliant performance by Davids of South Africa.

He seems to have won all 5 heats of the boys 200m

commentators for Karate have no clue about the rules :d JPN-THA match ended up 3-3 and the Japanese won the match by the Senshu rule ! but since they didn't know what the hell is this. they thought she won the match by "superiority" :d

PS: Senshou means whoever scores first will have advantage in case of tie at the end. (senshu gets cancelled if you pick up a penalty in last 15 seconds)
