Not the whole of Europe, but certainly in Germany, Russia, Scandinavia.

It's probably the most popular winter sport given the number of participating nations (alpine skiing & cross country are way more top heavy with certain Nordic & Alps nations only). Tennis and cycling are probably somewhat more popular overall.

Outside of Norway - possibly - it' not even a Top 5 sport in any country of Europe

In Italy, it is less popular than many other winter sports.

And Ukraine. Biathlon is the most popular wintersport here for sure. And talking about TV audience - in the TOP after the football

I just watched the mixed relay replay on Peacock. Awful announcing. Completely mangled Lou’s last name every single time she mentioned her. Could it have been her first time watching biathlon? So disappointing.

Feels a little like what I've once heard about field hockey being super popular to watch in the Netherlands. No, it's not :p (people watch during the Olympics and a little bit during world championships and that's it)

 

Arguably biathlon may have a larger viewership overall considering it's at least shown on Eurosport's main channel all winter long.
