IOC President Election 2025

Recommended Posts

I am not so sure that any candidate will focus primarily on sports. Their interest will probably be stuff AROUND the olympics like transgender inclusion and so on.

I hope that the most sane candidate will prevail. :fingers:

In the end none of these senior citizens like Coe or Samaranch or whoever are going to make an actual difference, we need someone who is young, hip and in touch with urban culture

I think what someone like Coe and Samaranch offers is stability for the next 5 or so years after the controversies that have happened over the last couple of years which has tarnished to an extent the reputation of the Olympics and the IOC, there also needs to be someone who's strong enough to deal with Trump in LA who will undoubtedly try to make it all about himself and try to stop rightfully qualified athletes from entering the country.

The IOC not hip? C’mon they’ve added skateboarding, breaking and surfing… all things that were cool as hell in the 80’s!

It feels like events, der boy, events have overtaken the election on stuff like the transgender inclusion and DSD athlete issues. Even Kirsty Coventry is not holding the Bach-Adams line any more, which would have been astonishing eighteen months ago, but seems entirely predictable now - with Athletics, Swimming, Cycling, Rowing etc having now gone in a clear direction, and with the next Summer Games destined for Trumpland, that seems almost certainly not the hill anyone in the IOC will die on. I imagine the reintegration of Russia is likely to be more pressing issue - Trump will want them there, the War, one way or tother looks like it may wind down soon, but its doubtful a trustworthy anti-doping regime will really be in place in time.

The candidate with the most clarity on these issues is pretty obviously Coe. I'm not entirely certain clarity will be a benefit, and we simply don't know how much of Bach's seething hatred of Coe has been channelled into the election backstge -- is Bach now so much yeserdays man that his patrimony no longer tilts the IOC? Or does he retain loyalty through influence, or influence through loyalty?

I was hoping each candidate would battle to death with the 1976 gold medallst, in fencing of course.

IMO, none of them gives a shit about sports (and Coe has my particular hatred) but let’s expect the least “bad” wins, or at least someone who doesn’t want to cut every event down to 8 starters and bring in “e-sports”

Maybe it's my youth, but I don't understand the distain for Coe being president. From a political point of view I understand why people, like myself, aren't a fan of him but from a sporting point of view I think he's done a good job as head of World Athletics and would be one of the few candidates who could successfully deal with Trump heading into LA 28.

Coe is the man who supported the previous IAAF officials/wada/fidal/Russian plot against Schwazer and refused to reinstate him after the trial court proved the plot

moreover, he just demolished race walking

these 2 things alone are enough to hope not to see Lord Seb in a decisional role anymore 😈
