Reigning Libertadores champion Botafogo are out in R16 after losing to LDU Quito of all teams. This must be a huge upset? @hoversaBR

Nah, absolutly normalm.

Brazilian teams use to struggle against Ecuatorian teams (Liga, Barcelona and Del Vale) and Botafogo this year is much worse than the last year's team.

I would say that Botafogo isnt a top 8 team in Brazil at this moment.

They spent MUCH money and made an average team.

Well, I realize Ecuador teams play at altitude which might be a problem but it's not like the best club teams are basically 60% of national team anymore? I think that used to be the case in 80s or 90s where some of these teams from lesser nations went deep in Libertadores? Like Sporting Cristal into the final or Olimpia Asuncion? Btw, I see River Plate barely won on penalties against another Asuncion team. Of course more Brazilian players leave for Europe these days as well.

But overall the QF are usual suspects, four teams from Argentina, three from Brazil and LDU Quito.

Maybe Colombian teams are struggling more than before? I recall America de Cali used to make a few finals but always lost one way or another.

It took only 50 years, but we can finally put a star in our jerseys :p

After 49 years UEFA recognizes Slovakia as winner together with Czechia for their shared win as Czechoslovakia in 1976.

Marek Hamšík took part in the legends charity match 2025

That´s nice for sure

Less nice is he received a familiar but somehow wrong flag in his jersey :p

    • Do you know who the US is going to start?   If it's not Skenes, then the chances of winning go up somewhat
    • That would require the Dominican Republic losing to South Korea and I'll eat a sock if that happens
    • A lot of clear shooting in men's sprint in Otepaa. Laegreid vs Jacquelin ski race for the win.

    • Yep, if they can take advantage of those cracks maybe, but it's too big of a maybe in my opinion. Our pitching has relied on Caissie, Toro, and Lopez the entire tournament, and I don't see that being enough to match the US's firepower.   Canadians are used to disappointment, there's almost always things that go wrong, and there actually being a chance to qualify for the...
    • That was realistic though, this isn't.   The women were heavy favourites, we did better than expected. The men were favourites with their roster of course, but they dominated that final just unfortunate to be going up against prime Hellebuyck who was a brick wall and of course there were a few questionable calls that were crucial in the end.
    • It's unlikely, but possible. USA pitching is not that great imo. Canada will probably have to score 6+ runs to have a chance, but it's definitely possible.
    • If they can beat us in hockey, we can win in baseball
