I don't understand why the Universiades and Youth Olympic Festivals are recently always at the same time. You would think the 2 events, which pretty much target the same youth athletes would try to avoid each other.

The timing is really bad, because it's also the time of the World/European Championships in many sports, so not so many top athletes who are considered as youth or students can be there

Youth OIympic Festivals are much younger - 16-18 years I think.

The EYOFs are for high school athletes (16-18 years old), the Universiade for univerdiers (19-25)

Just found out that Indonesia won't join the Games this time because the National University Sport Federation missed the registration deadline...

They also revealed that they managed to miss the deadline in Chengdu but was still allowed entry lol

Is there a full country list to everyone that is competing?

I am wondering if Serbia is competing? We have not competed since 2017, where we won 4 gold medals.

Hopefully we do, but unfortunately, I really doubt that we will.

It is a bit sad for a country that once hosted the games not to compete in them anymore.

Events like this often have those a bit late I think :p

As for the Netherlands: I'm definitely expecting participation, but usually we send (relatively, of course) low-level athletes to these kind of things, university sports isn't really a thing here. Even in speed skating for the Winter Universiade we usually have athletes one would barely see at regular Dutch championships :p

Unlike for the Soccer World Cup, for example, the US Teams for the team sports are not a national selection.  Instead, they just pick a single College Team and that then becomes Team USA.  So the US Women's Basketball team is basically the Texas Tech Red Raiders - but with US Nationals only.   Men's Basketball is Baylor, both Water Polo teams are UCLA.

World University Games Team USA Roster - Texas Tech Red Raiders

Honestly, that is probably a good idea. Just pick the best national college team that wants to go, and send them, at least they're actually a team then :d

I remember USA volleyball sending a mid-level college women's team that got destroyed in every match, while bookmakers saw them as favourites early on....that paid for my Four Hills Tournament trip years ago, I believe

Italy sent a delegation of 219 athletes, with some big names in.

Is there a day by day schedule out yet?

Unfortunately, not for now, but there's some version on it: https://rhineruhr2025.com/en/schedule/sports

    • Also a first: never before has a Dutch pair participated in the games, according to media rapports.
    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
