Always a race to look forward to, there have been some epic :BRA v :IRI v :GRE clashes in the past.

Individually, yes, Iran might well end up on top of that. Sami Beyrami has been really strong this season, would not at all be surprised to see her fight for the win in the qualifying race in Trondheim. As a team though, both Brazil and Greece should easily beat Iran at least in the women's competitions :p Their 2nd, 3rd and 4th best athletes are all far ahead of Iran's 2nd best.

The interesting fight for a potential second Olympic ticket will also be against the likes of Armenia and Andorra, who have a strong woman, but not at all a strong team. Katya Galstyan and especially Gina del Rio can score quite a few points, the question is if that will be enough to hold off countries like Brazil which have enough eligible women for a team sprint and a relay.

Makes me curious who they picked over him, even though his progress seems to have stopped a bit this season.

He raced a ski Classons race instead of the junior race that the association wanted all candidates to take part in. So he had a choice but I tahini he didnt understand how importsnt it was.

About hos progress, I think his problem is that he was too good to Young at the ski classics races so he has focused on the stake techique instead of developing his freestyle and the classical variation as needed in World cups

Sounds like the classic example of an athlete not taking the time to read the rules.... :p

Just to check I didn't miss anything, but there doesn't happen to be any way of dowloading the entire season's calendar in some sort of a CSV format, correct?

https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/cross-country/calendar-results.html

I'm looking for weekends that have both a classic sprint and a freestyle distance race, but I guess that's going to be manual labour :p

.

Just wanted to mention this.

This week's edition of the Keep The Flame Alive podcast will feature an interview with Bruna

https://flamealivepod.com/

Will be available late on Thursday European time.

Tomorrow the junior/U23 world championships start, which is always a bit of a gamble to see whether it will be shown anywhere....so far, I have found nothing, which isn't a good sign. Anyone?

:ITA Schilpario, by the way.

Last couple of times it was on YT as well, conveniently divided up into different channels for each discipline.  Will check tomorrow morning.

That's good, and looking down on that page it seems like it will be available to watch on-demand as well. Which I think is arguably even more important for a streaming platform and which is why YouTube usually beats out every other way of live streaming :p

Cross-Country Skiing NOC Quota Standings as of February 2nd

These are the quotas that get allocated to NOCs after the basic quota (1 male + 1 female) is allocated to NOC's who have athletes that have the required amount of points. These standings are NOT the same as the World Cup Nations Cup. The Nations cup only gives points to the top 30 athletes in a race while the Olympic rankings give points to every athlete which partakes in a race and also includes World Championships and World Junior Championships results. I attempted to calculate the standings using this document as I don't believe the list has been made public yet.

    • My family on my mother's side comes from Poland, we spent a few holidays there when we were kids. At the beginning of the 21st century it was a pretty cool country, but only now do you see how much Warsaw, for example, has developed. Certainly, Poland has always had a rather bad location on the map and hence a difficult history, but the last 20 years have been very good for it. There is still a negative sentiment for countries like Germany or Russia, for example, it is visible during sports games, when these countries are not the favorites of polish fans :P I think that polish-italian relations as positive - I don't even mean politics, but generally in the feelings of ordinary people. If a survey were to be conducted in Italy, Poland would probably be in the top of the most liked nations. In Poland, I have also always been and still am quite pleasantly received as an Italian.
    • Europe should host 2036, then India / Egypt could have 2040.
    • So far we've got Egypt: https://www.thestatesman.com/sports/egypt-eyes-historic-olympic-bid-for-2036-and-2040-1503330822.html   Possibly Madrid: https://gamesbids.com/eng/winter-olympic-bids/future-winter-bids/spain-abandons-madrid-2036-olympic-bid-to-focus-on-possible-pyrenees-barcelona-2030-winter-games/   And Poland: https://www.barrons.com/news/poland-to-bid-for-summer-olympics-in-2040-or-2044-a9704528   Maybe Germany: https://www.barrons.com/news/germany-to-bid-for-2040-summer-olympics-424aadf2
    • It would be nice to think of a way to do this that makes hosting it a bit easier. I mean, as a participant it is definitely lots of fun, but it is truly insane how much time hosting it can cost, even with the always massive amounts of help you get from people like @OlympicIRL.

    • I know the forum is in a rather dark timeline currently with not much engagement and activity, but I never imagined a time when we won't be having a song contest.  I too have opted in and out of contests throughout the years, but it was always a given, that twice a year there will be TISC. And this for over a decade
    • I am asthmatic. I won with this disease but in childhood almost died 3 times. One i remember. Believe me, if you have asthma steroids wont help you wining gold. This is like an absurd. You use them when you have a attack, to literaly breathe. But Europe was buying this. Many things. Clear it was systematical state cheating with doctors, some people at central level, oh cmon. Easy things are easy, hope that polish voice will become better heard.  Edit, former jumpers from Norway confirmed they were also cheating. So this is system cheating for years. Very sad.
