Men's Basketball FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2024

Lithuania is tying hard to lose this one

you can't see this amount of silly turnovers in a Nepalese league match, 3 offensive unsportsmanlike fouls only in 4th quarter :d

just to avoid misunderstanding, I don't mean this is intentional

Congrats for the huge win

but wasn't Justin Brownlee supposed to be banned for doping ? what happened to him ? did he receive a short ban ? or not even got banned at all ?

in short does he keep his Asian Games medal or not ?

Brownlee was banned for three months by FIBA. He was cleared to play again this February. As for his Asian Games gold medal, I haven’t heard or read anything coming from the OCA about it

I really wished :BAH was in a different group they could have had a chance, but I feel Spain is a bit too powerful.

Not at all. I would like for this tournament to be in Bahamas or on a neutral site, but Spain is far cry from those powerful Spain teams in the last 20 years. They're still favorites here but Bahamas do have a chance I feel.

A silly silly unsportsmenlike foul by IC player when he was already being fouled and sent to the line with IC up by 3 and 2 minutes left. Should have been a 5 pt game but without FT-s and without another Lithuania possession. Also, in the game when refs already called 2 unsportsmenlike offensive fouls on Lithuania correctly so there's no way they shouldn't call this. Also Lekavicius coming up strong with 2 threes in the end to win the match for Lithuania.

Many interesting situations on the last day of group stage with Slovenia needing 10pt win over NZ, Phillipines playing for first place in the group, all of Poland Finland Ivory Coast and Mexico playing for their lives and Italy and Puerto Rico playing for avoiding Lithuania in semis, huge match. But very much interested to see Dončić playing today and setting up huge semifinal clash with Greece.

I thought I had seen a lot of pathetic situations in Brazilian basketball in recent years, but they still manage to surprise me. :yikes:

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
