Bit surprising that IHF didn’t choose Romania as a wild card instead of Great Britain, but oh well. Good for them.

Hosts Hungary wouldn't like such a strong team like Romania to participate in this event, it would be far more difficult to qualify then. I guess it could be a factor as well.

To be fair, that's a little like saying the Netherlands should be great at ice hockey because it's the best country in the world both in skating and hockey :p

No but seriously, why isn’t the Netherlands a world power in bandy? It’s literally field hockey with skates!

Sweden en route, too, with a 35-28 win against Japan

Germany en route, as well, with a 31-25 win against Slovenia

I watched the first half of our women, but what a shame. After 15 minuten our goalkeeper had a 0% rate in succesfull stops. From defence to attack ... it was a really bad first half. I expect we will win eventually, but Czech Republic and Spain will have chances against this Dutch team.

Rooting for :NED to qualify here so that @CCB won’t be as disappointed when Canada overtakes Netherlands for the final quota in women’s volleyball :p (… just kidding, I still don’t think we’ll do enough to qualify)

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
