taking a look at 89kg results (Group C and D) I think it's 99% safe to say that :AUS Kyle Bruce will take the continental quota. he had to battle his teammate Oliver Saxton and beat him by a kilo in Group C (336 vs 335)

it's almost a sure thing that all other 4 continents will have someone in top 10 and there is nobody else from Oceania

that was crazy, Karlos Nasar could easy break the total WR but he wanted to break everything :d tried 224 to break both CJ and total WR and missed it by the narrowest possible margin.

he broke the snatch WR but the Colombian former doper Yeison Lopez broke it again one minute later.

Nasar is easily capable of 400 or 405. if I was China I wouldn't pick this weight because even the silver medal is hard to win. but it's also funny if World #1 doesn't go to the Olympics. but that happens in women's weightlifting anyway

I wouldn't pick this weight either. Li Dayin always lose critical events for many times and this time as usual. And he has 3 main rivals in this weight, ie the other 3 top4 in this world cup. So even if one or two of them underperform in OG, he may still lose the game. But 73kg Shi Zhiyong clearly just has one major rival, the :INA young man. So if he underperform in OG, the 2-time OG defending champion would easily grasp the chance.

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.

    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
