If I good understand that universal places are intended for exotic countries? There is no chance that, for example, Zanni would get such a place in his category?

to put in objective terms, universality quotas are for countries with less than an average of 8 athletes in individual sports on the last 2 Olympics.

In 59 France Is qualified, they Will use only in 71 if Fegue Will choose 81

So, in the 59kg, the 11th athlete (Taylor Wilkins) would get the quota, right?

Nope. USA has 3 other much better athletes in other weights

Beside that in this case IWF will decide wich weight will receive a wild card or reallocation

Hopefully that elusive gold will come in Paris, so the sport will be well-funded than before and we can actually become a powerhouse.

Top athlete like Rahmat Abdullah still train in a dilapidated gym without electricity and using rusty weights owned by his father (who is also his coach). Most of the weightlifting Olympians of this country hails from the same province and also the same club, where the club founder fed and trained those poor kids into Olympians for free.

If the athletes can get results in such shit conditions, imagine if Indonesian weightlifting have a better funding.

What do you have to say about today's results? Will there be any other trials or Rizki deemed injured or anything?

That's where I'm not fully clear. Let's say that France has a quota on 59kg and 81kg. They will choose a host nation of 71kg most probably. If I'm not mistaken

So I think @MHSNis right because IWF would have to choose which category between 81 and 59 to give a ranking quota and which to give universality. Do you think they would look at who would get the rankings quota and who would get the Universality quota (Malta or Lebanon?) and decide?

Well unfortunately that last hasty C&J lift cost Rahmat dearly… It is what it is. No dispute or anything else from what I have read.

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
