I have serious doubts whether Adam Peaty will be as good as he was in 2016 and 2021.

But for :GBR I have a good feeling about Zoe Backstedt winning a medal in either the road time trial or the mountain biking.

Mountain biking? Has she even taken part in a mountain biking race this year?

Backstedt may struggle to make the GB road squad - Anna Henderson will double up (and may feature for minor medal), Pfeiffer Georgi and Anna Shackley almost certain to be selected for road race Lizzie Deignan and Claire Steels likely to fight it out for last spot.

Three points.

1 - I owe you a grovelling apology. In my mind Zoe was a world junior champion champion at mountain biking when, of course, she was a champion in cyclo cross

2 - However, I think she could be world class in mountain biking if she put her mind to it,

3 - Disagree, Henderson, as good as she is, is not in the same class as Zoe as a time trialist. Zoe will be a world or Olympic champion in the future. The question is really if that happens in Paris or will she have to wait for LA 2028?

No apology required - in my mind I had thought Backstedt's background was on the track.

The reason I believe that Backstedt will struggle to make the road team is that outside of this week's European Championships, she hasn't achieved that much on the roads this year - and that is a key criteria in the GB selection policy. That being said, the policy is sufficiently vague that she could well be selected but ultimately, I think Paris will come round too early for her.

On the question of Henderson, I don't make a comparison against Backstedt - I simply think that she will be selected for both road race and the time trial, and that she could sneak a medal. She was 4th at the worlds and 2nd at the Europeans so she has shown good form this year.

I would sign for that anytime obviously, but this sport is so even currently, results are within second(s) that any mistake, any stronger wind while crossing a gate, any stronger or smaller change of water literally at any part of the piste during the run can make the difference, the track setting for the semifinals and finals itself may be a big factor as it can be more favorable for one or another type of paddlers (more technical type, more strength paddler, left handed, right handed especially in Cannoe events) + home advantage is and always will be a advantageous factor for local paddlers who will have more chances to learn about the water specifications.

So all in all, predict anything in Canoe Slalom is a bit courageous, bold and highly .. let say speculative (but, yeah I would sign anytime for your prediction to happen :p)
