Proposals for Continental Olympic Qualifications

Recommended Posts

So, what would everyone’s opinion be on the following: We move NZL and AUS to Asian qualifiers, and leave the Continental spots for the smaller nations, or NZL/AUS only qualifier through continental spots when no other nations wish to. Thoughts?

So do you want increase the useless quotas for Oceania? No thanks.

Meaningless. Those island nation will never improve because they simply don't have enough people. Only in rugby it would have any purpose.

But it would have increase international participation. Plus, we don’t that wouldn’t be the case since we haven’t tried it. I do feel that you may be right though. I just hate giving AUS/NZL all these free places.

In principle it wouldn't be bad, but in practice a lot of spots are unused even in sports you would expect Oceanian nation to be at least decent (see 470 recently). It would make more sense to fuse Asia and Oceania and reserve some spots for local regions, partially as FEI does, at least in more developed sports in which more quotas are available. Another way could be a slight increase in quotas that are actually given through tripartite commission, let's say doubling them, and make the distribution through ranking and/or dedicated tournaments.

Why are you making the already crowded Asian qualifier even more crowded.

Olympics are for the top athletes and few invitational place. Australia and New Zealand are in Oceania, they should compete for Oceania (that it's already the weakest continent).

If we're going to mess with regions I'd rather have SEA + Oceania as a region. Asia is already too crowded as a qualification region as is.

    • Just noticed that  Sweden rejected a late quota in men's ski cross. There is no one left to reallocate the quota to so men's ski cross will only have 31 athletes entered.   Who would've thought before the games began that women's ski cross would use all 32 quotas and men's ski cross wouldn't.

    • A few years ago, losing to Argentina might have been acceptable because you had a better squad. Not this time, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything different after those friendlies against Sweden either.    It was the ideal opportunity for us to dominate this sport on the continent for a few years, until Argentina once again had the best squad, considering that your work with young players is better.
