The only thing that pisses me of about Taimuraz representing Spain is the fact that he had never worried about learning spanish. He had live in Spain before, but now he lives in Russia and only come back for wrestling, and he has not idea about spanish. Even the federation needs a traslator to speak with him.

Soon after Emese Takacs earned a place for Olympics, a controversy emerged in brazilian Fencing. The athlete's citizenship was suspended after some irregularities in her naturalization process - including the possibility that her marriage with a brazilian was "arranged" (apparently she has another partner). The case was open by Giocondo Cabral, who is a coach of another athlete, Amanda Simeão, the next in line for a spot in the team. The decision is not final, but for now things don't look good for her (more details here).

Amanda herself gave some really harsh declarations to the press about her "teammate" (here).

One of the first Olympic "soap operas" that will reveal how is not always simple about being fair regarding National selections.

If you like selection soap operas you should read up on Trinidad and Tobago's gymnastics selection. It essentially divided a nation.

You're right, this is pure media gossip... poor girl, I hope people could understand is not entirely her fault.

Right now I'm still trying to figuring out the outcome of the diving soap opera in Mexico... it seems they will do another "check up round"; not to mention the bitterness that will ensue the selection in Men's 20km race walk and the possible exclussion of our hammer thrower.

The whole thing is so silly. T&T can either send Dick or nobody. By the time it became a big scandal it was too late to change anything.

It was already a bit of a scandal before that ranging from T&T changing their selection criteria to give Dick a chance at competing at the test event to topless pictures of both athletes

Mladenovic was born in France. She was asked if she would play for Serbia but she refused, being born and raised in France. And how French she feels is visible in Fed Cup.

TSS has never invited her to represent Serbia officially. They probably though she didn't worth it, lol.

I hope they'll enjoy in women's tennis success in upcoming years.

There's Danilovic, ffs. She's gonna outshine both Graf and Serena! How come you didn't know that?!

Ivana and Nina are irrelevant, on the other hand - they have no famous parents.

    • Non-Olympic Athlete, Moment of the Year and Olympic Spirit Award are the ones lacking the most. Paralympic Athlete and Breakthrough also don't have a lot of votes.
    • Do you have or have you ever had an modern ice track?
    • Still no progress in the Italian team: 2x 4th place in men's singles and women's doubles+ a fall in the team relay. Men's doubles and women's singles without any progress for years. What's worse, our women's doubles also significantly lowered their level: without a single podium in the World Cup in this season. As of today, I'm betting on 0 medals in Cortina for us, excluding some miracles on the home track.
    • There is some progress at Barp and Carollo but almost everything is still based on Pellegrino. In the men's we lost a great talent - de Fabiani and Davide Graz - they are at an age where we have a generation gap in these age groups: 1994-2000. In the women's I`m happy with Monsorno's progress in sprints but the last podium WC in the women's category was in... 2011. We wasted 15 years in the women's category and now we are only waking up with 1 year to go until the games in Cortina, when we should have a ready team like Germany (I will skip Scandinavia because of its completely different potential).
    • Italy doesn't exist in women's technical competitions without from Brignone and Goggia - both over 30 age. Unfortunately Bassino has been out of good shipe since from last season in the giant slalom and she is unrecognizable in some competitions. In the case of Goggia I also don't really believe in regular podiums in the giant slalom - she can't have falls and win in the downhill and super-G. The giant slalom is just a bonus.   The Italian women's slalom has basically been non-existent for many years. One Peterlini qualifies for the 30 and doesn't finish half of the competitions. I can't understand how it was possible to lose Colturi in a situation where other Italians have fallen so badly. Unfortunately it's not the Italian federation that should be setting the conditions here but it's Colturi and her mother - a talent on par with Shiffrin at her age.
    • In relay yes, but we have 8 more from our legend Natalya Yakushenko back in 2008 and earlier
